4.5 to 5.0 cm in aorta,.at Massachusetts General best in the world.


Sent home last evening, found out aneurysm is smaller than first viewed. Had a pneumonia that was causing chest pain. Did a nuclear imaging of heart and nuclear stress test, in addition to Cat scans and MRI' s all showed my heart is very healthy surgeon said my heart is like a 20 year olds, no coronary artery disease, no plaque, no scarring, my resting heart rate.is in 40's and have no electrical or chemical issues. BP for mid 50's guy in stressful occupation is 120-130 systolic. Surgeon wants to see me every 6 months for a CT or if I have symptoms. Slept well at home. Thanks to Para and all.here for the prayers and support. This is the best little corner of the world. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

In general, less than 5.5 cm, you should be a nonsurgical candidate, unless there is concomitant dissection. Also, depends on the location of the aneurysm. Where is yours? Good luck!

Scary stuff. My Aunt died from the Anyortic rupture. Went to the hospital when she passed out at the casino.

Docs gave her the news that she needed surgery STAT. She hesitated and passed overnight.

Glad you are getting it addressed.

My father lived with one for at least thirty years (from the time it was discovered).
He made it to 92, and the aneurysm was never a problem. They never did anything with it.
Hopefully yours will be a similar outcome.

Get an aortic graft placed. They do a cut down but it is very safe with great results. Do anesthesia for these all the time.

Glad you are not the surgeon. Location is critical.Ascending aorta is much different than abdominal aneurysm. See here:

I have a similar problem with ascending aortic annerysm that my cardiologist has been monitoring with CT scans for a little over a year.
Size has not increased in that timeframe.

Good luck with yours. I had my root-arch and partial descending done 12/2002 and redone on 7/2006 & 9/2007. First was emergency repair for rupture to keep me alive. The second /third done at U-Penn, were to replace failing first repair and any remaining dissections. It could also benefit you to be tested for any genetic disposition to tissue collagen/healing disorders like Marfan, Loeyz-Dietz, Ehler-Danlos.

Technology has improved a lot since mine was done. Invasive vs. stents, etc. is dependent upon location. Ex, you can't always stent because required aortic branching.

Sorry for late replies I have two one is 4.5 cm and other 5.1 cm been testing all day,.Mass Geneal Brigham, Brigham campus. Out of the blue chest pain, not on any medication no high BP no.diabetes. feel good if the docs. We're not telling me I.would think I'm imagine it.

Sorry about the spelling errors, the chest pain has been quite difficult, have received a lot of pain medication, and due to an allergic condition, I can't have iodine contrast, and have nuclear medicine image in the morning before surgery Friday or Saturday. I don't know how people enjoy the feeling from the pain medication, I feel cloudy and lost, morphine, hydromorphine, hydrocodone, and others. Thanks for the prayers.
