I guess since he was only he to sell his bullshit he wouldn’t have seen this topic covered at length, and that is putting it mildly, over the years. This isn’t got damn EBay.

I used to own a car, specific model, that has a forum. I’ve started clearing out the garage recently and have a few parts to sell from that car and will have to go back to that forum, where I was a regular member, but haven’t been for years because I sold it 4.5 years ago. That forum has rules, in that you have to pay the fiddler to sell wares and I have no issue with it. I’ll pay the dues for a month or two to be a seller, a private seller, to move my stuff. These clowns come here and try to use it like EBay. A private forum. I just shake my head. I’ve sold stuff over the years and 9/10, since I list a very fair price, is I’ll take it. It’s that one asshole out of the ten, trying to wheeler/dealer type shit that makes classifieds just a bitch in general. If I was selling something on here the owner wanted, shit that’s a discount dude.

Oh and it’s site, not “sight”. Big Grin

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Thanks for running this forum the way you do Para.

I don’t do much business in the classifieds but have accepted personal checks from long time members and have paid other members in personal checks without problem or fear because I know you and the mods you have given the position to are going to intercede if there is any issue.

Honestly I’d take a personal check for anyone as long as they were willing to wait until the check cleared before I shipped. Anytime that I’ve used a personal check to pay I’ve always told the seller to hold the item as long as they needed to ensure the check cleared as well.

Was he saying “sorry no” to accepting your personal check or was he saying “sorry no” to not cutting out the shipping cost?

Is it possible his heated response was due to the thought that he felt he was being kicked out of the classifieds because he said no to cutting his prices for the owner of the forum?

This could be two reasonable people reading the wrong intent from the other. Tough to say for sure from a two word response.

Uh, I think you're reading it wrong, especially based on his follow up response to Para. There is no gray area here. The guy was a straight up douchebag if for no other reason than the manner of his response. Good riddance.

OBVIOUSLY, it was 'no' to both.

Not only is it possible, it is exactly what happened. Why would you think otherwise?

No, both parties were crystal clear. Again, why would you think otherwise?

Reading is fundamental. As I stated, the two word response is at the core of the issue.

Here, let me help you:

If he had said man, I'm in a real tight spot financially and I need every penny or something like that, it would be different, but he comes here when he's no longer a participating member of the forum, uses our bandwidth to sell his stuff, and then blows me off with a terse response?

Did you read what I wrote? He wrote "sorry no" to a request for a price adjustment and then got kicked off the classifieds. It is quite possible and likely that he believed he was kicked off because he wouldn't cut the price to the owner of the forum. That isn't the reason but he easily could have connected the dots and that is what he thought happened. Nobody knows though because he responded with a 2 word response and then got booted and then he replied with the nasty angry email. Clearly a better response would have been to engage Mike in a discussion about what actually was meant/what happened. I don't know Mike but he has always been reasonable if someone acts in good faith.

My point is that this is not a clear cut "this guy is a douche" moment. If you believe that you certainly distilled a whole lot more out of "sorry no" than I certainly can.

I wish the seller would have handled it differently is all, because I can see how both sides could have read it and come to two different outcomes.

I read every word you wrote (I quoted your entire post) and I find it quite amusing that you think I am having difficulty interpreting your "complex" assessment of matters I was familiar with long before you.

I'll also add that there was a further email exchange between us, and you haven't seen it. If you had seen it, it would have helped untangle the mystery for you, all the way.

Before this goes off the rails, my comment was directed to bigwagon not you para. Your post wasn't even there when I typed it.

I could have been guilty of the first email. I have many times typed short responses on my phone because I can't type for shit on my phone. The second response was obviously completely out of line.
