A member with about 1900 posts over the years, but who has barely posted over the last year, uses this forum's bandwidth to advertise two 500 round lots of Federal 5.56 ammo. In addition to his asking price (which will certainly be more than he paid originally) he was asking for 20 dollars shipping and payment via Zelle, Venmo, or money order.

I emailed him, clearly identifying myself and I asked him if he would be willing to wave the shipping fee- twenty bucks. I also asked him if he would accept my personal check, which should be as good as gold to any member who has been here as long as he has err was. It's the truth. Is there anyone here who thinks I would bounce a check off of a forum member?

I get a two word response from him: "No sorry"

If he had said man, I'm in a real tight spot financially and I need every penny or something like that, it would be different, but he comes here when he's no longer a participating member of the forum, uses our bandwidth to sell his stuff, and then blows me off with a terse response?

I read countless ads in Classifieds and try to make sure everything and everyone is on the up and up. I buy almost nothing through the Classifieds here, perhaps one or two items a year, and some years, I've bought nothing at all.

I know the admin of one forum, now defunct, who screened all ads, meaning he saw all ads before they reached the open forum, and in this way, he snagged the sweetest of the deals. We don't do that; never have.

Twenty bucks, and a payment from someone who has an impeccable reputation in such matters, looking out for others for two decades worth of day-in, day-out financial transactions. Furthermore, whenever I put something up for sale, the consideration is reciprocal. Some of you surely have seen me say in an ad "If I know you well enough, I'll accept your personal check."

You guys have never seen me complain about something like this, for the simple reason that no one I've contacted with an offer has ever been an ungrateful asshole. What I was asking was barely anything, and since the guy couldn't be bothered to even be polite about it, he's gone.

I just wanted to get it off my chest, and I guarantee you that the guy sold his ammo here, in a few short hours. It's the only reason he was here today. He used the forum to sell his stuff, and that's the only reason he was here, and that's a jerkoff move.

Here's the response I got from him when, initially, I told him to refrain from selling anything in the forum- that is to say, he wouldn't have been banned, but:

"Fuck off I dont owe you anything, shove your shitty little sight up your cheap ass"

Shaking my damn head with eyes rolled up. Damn lame! Yeah, he managed to "sell" the first 500 to someone, before you posted.

About $20.00 shipping gave it away for me.

This guy's fucked-up attitude was not something I'm used to seeing. It has been my experience thru my "Sig Years" that new members either become a better person (including me) by association with the members here or eventually demonstrate that lack of character and leave on their own or get "perp-walked" off the forum.

Yes, this is what I've referred to as 'pruning the tree'. The dead branches get pruned or fall off on their own, allowing the healthy branches thrive.

We do hold members to a high standard and if you observe this place long enough, you can see the effect of members rising to the occasion; the people who want to be here seem to possess a high degree of integrity. In short, the forum attracts and retains those who wish to be part of something worthwhile. You don't have to take my word for it, but it really does seem to be the truth. You just have to observe long enough to see how members behave when one of them is in need.

Selling here is a privilege not a right; being able to do so with trusted members is that much better. I have sold quite a few items here and one thing I always do is let members in good standing pay with a personal check. It’s easier on them, and now that banks allow deposit checks by taking a picture with your phone, easier than any other method. Personal checks are seen by many as riskier, but not at SF; I feel like anyone that was untrustworthy has been weeded out by a watchful raptor.
