My typical carry on, shove up in overhead compartment, roller bit the dust. Long story.

I am curious as to what your preference for a carry on - preferably roller - piece of luggage is.

Budget is fairly wide open.

Last was a Swiss Gear that lasted 14-15 years.

I have one made by Timberland which is lasting very well, though I use it mostly for car travel. I have taken it on planes and fits fine in the overhead compartment. I don't know the specific model number, but I bought it on Amazon many years ago....around 2016 I think.

ETA I just checked amazon and their website and I don't see anything like what I have. Guess they got out of that business.

I'd go with another SwissGear. Mine has served me well and it sounds like your previous one served you well too.

Not a roller but I’ve gotten myself and my son the Maxpedtion carry on. It has handles in multiple places, a storable backpack harness, expands well, cinch down straps, etc.

I use it all the time. I like the backpack part because typically I pack in that and the have both hands to man handle the wife’s luggage.

I only like rollers on big luggage. Carry on size they just take up space to my mind.

I didn’t pay that much, they have sales all the time. Black or tan. I bought both and gave son first choice. They look huge in picture. You can either get a ton of stuff in or cinch it small. I love them.

Really nice affordable RIMOWA style carry on. Company called MVST, lifetime warranty, will get scratched and dinged up being aluminum but they are tough. I am about to replace my carry on a TUMI after 15 years, so its either going to be this or I am gonna splurge on the RIMOWA.

Buyer beware, while MVST says they have a lifetime warranty, there's an undercurrent of discontent amongst users. Then there's the issue of its sourcing and the background of the company. Check out the Alibaba-link. Do you know anybody that owns/uses?

Travelpro would be my choice. I hate carry on luggage. We usually fly first, but I hate manipulating bags in the cabin, and prefer to check all but my personal backpack. Watching the fights over carry on space bends my brain.

I'm a Pelican nerd so mine is the 1510LOC. It has a pouch on the lid for your laptop and power cords and a zip up cover for the rest of it. I'd recommend the Pelican air version though, the weight reduction is very noticeable. I believe the air version is the 1535.

I might get something like this. More like a fat briefcase if I had to check an item also but big enough for a couple days? I don't fly much and my bags probably wouldn't get past TSA. happy shopping.

I bought one for international travel. Turns out the airline had a weight limit even for carry ons. It was 20 pounds total. At the airport, I had to put stuff from the carry on to the check in bags and got rid of some. I was able to put in 5 pounds of stuff in the bag. The bag was 15 pounds by itself.

I ended up with Travelpros.

Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I like my maxpedition backpack for the reason stated above and mine carries a soft ballistic panel. Light weight, hands free and hasn’t raised an eyebrow with TSA yet. Not real tacticool either, looks like an old jansun book bag from college

That's me! I carry on my Swiss Gear backpack 100% of the time, it's rare that I also bring this on board:

Ah, understood. I have Swissgear bags (which I really like) but never the rolling carry on. I just pulled my rolling carry on out and its from High Sierra, weighs maybe 5-6 pounds. I received it as a gift from my employer for a work anniversary (I picked it out of a few options). It's similar to this one, but has side pockets for water bottles.

I'll be taking it to Mexico in a few weeks. I took it to Jamaica last year and the Dominican Republic 2 years before that.

I have been using a Delsey Helium Aero for the past decade or so and it’s been great. I use the international size which has a compartment accessible from the outside. Very convenient to access the stuff you use most often without having to open the main compartment. Makes going through security much easier. It’s a hard shell spinner.

Thanks for the heads up, I saw one in the airport and liked the way it looked. If I still traveled as much as I used to I would have bought the Rimowa when I was Germany, I still might but its hard to justify the cost on something I will not use as much as I used to. Thats why I was considering the MVST.

About three years ago I changed all of my carry-on to TravelPro.
I am pleased with the construction. I'm not wild about their MagnaTrac spinners, but it's not a deal breaker.
