Most pilots and some flight attendants get the Stealth bag from Luggage Works. The one I have has a metal frame and is friggin' indestructible, but the empty weight is heavy as hell. I believe they do make one with a lighter aluminum or Carbon Fiber frame that is much lighter, but it wouldn't be as durable for the abuse I put a bag through, IMHO. HOWEVER...I don't think you would be putting a bag through the paces and abuse that airline crews put them through. Let me dig up a link for you...

Here you go:

Stealth Premier

This is their most expensive aluminum frame roll-a-board. Have some less expensive ones with metal frame...check out their website. Stick with the 22" frame...26" or 27" won't fit properly in the overhead.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Another vote for Travelpro here...we don't travel much, but have been pretty pleased with the couple of pieces that we have from them.

When I used to fly often for work, I would have the largest rigid side carry on possible that would fit in overhead storage, and the largest soft “personal bag” I could expect to fit u see the seat in front of me. A soft bag can be squished to fit the space- mine was a cheap tacticool backpack.

Really nice affordable RIMOWA style carry on. Company called MVST, lifetime warranty, will get scratched and dinged up being aluminum but they are tough. I am about to replace my carry on a TUMI after 15 years, so its either going to be this or I am gonna splurge on the RIMOWA.

MVST carry on

Buyer beware, while MVST says they have a lifetime warranty, there's an undercurrent of discontent amongst users. Then there's the issue of its sourcing and the background of the company. Check out the Alibaba-link. Do you know anybody that owns/uses?

Thanks for the heads up, I saw one in the airport and liked the way it looked. If I still traveled as much as I used to I would have bought the Rimowa when I was Germany, I still might but its hard to justify the cost on something I will not use as much as I used to. Thats why I was considering the MVST.

The Rimowa-look is sharp and iconic, many brands have come & gone attempting to mimic if not outright copy it at a lower cost. Getting one maybe my one luxury purchase I may strive for.

Hard-sided luggage has had a revival over the last decade, Away came out with some stylish colors and a unique battery pack, which led to problems. Since then other brands like Monos and Beis have come in with their color pallets, and their fans have touted better features or, a more durable finish.
