Tesla himself was all about wireless power transmission.

Or just lay inductive chargers under all highways and city streets. You can recharge your car and phone at the same time! This message has been edited. Last edited by: kkina,

He's not reading shit. It's borderline troll or grumpy-old-man mode. I know - Sabrina's wiggly nose!! Let's use that for making things go!!! You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

I think places have been experimenting with this. It's just really expensive right now.

No idea. I imagine it wouldn't extend far enough up away from the road to do anything, and just limit what cars could charge off it with a pad close enough to the ground. I don't even know if it has gone past prototyping in controlled areas. There's a whole host of logistical issues to make it work.

I mean, it’s how electric trams have worked for 100 years, but I’m sure there are issues.

Electric trams are powered by an external power source. There are millions of miles of roadways in this country. It's utter fantasy to think such a system could work.

As for putting an alternator somewhere on the car to charge the battery, that won't work either. To do so would take an alternator as big as the car, and it would most likely run hot, maybe enough to need water cooling. Water cooling would in turn require current for a circulating pump. And the alternator itself draws horsepower. "The Almighty, He put some livin' things on this earth so a man can eat." - Festus Haggen, Gunsmoke

Electric trams work through a physical contact, not wireless inductive charging.

Perhaps a system of rubber bands that get wound up as the vehicle moves. Then you can reverse the system and it moves the vehicle as the rubber bands unwind.

Here we go again... Nope. Read all the comments on this thread from folks that understand physics, energy efficiencies, mechanical efficiencies, electrical systems, solar & wind systems. Perpetual motion only worked with Wile. E. Coyote cartoons, with his excellent Acme products.
