SourceL Foxnews.com:Record-breaking drug bust made at Mexico border in California, Mexican citizen arrested: 'Staggering

U.S. Customs and Border Protection made a record-breaking seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine on Thursday, busting a Mexican citizen who was trying to haul the drugs into to the U.S. inside a truck, authorities said.

Carlos Martin Quintana-Arias, of Mexico, was driving a 2009 Kenworth Tractor pulling a 1996 Stoug trailer when he applied for entry into the U.S. at the Otay Mesa, California, Commercial Port of Entry at around 8:20 p.m., the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of California said in a news release.

While the trucker’s manifest indicated the trailer held automotive body parts, an X-Ray machine detected anomalies that required further inspection, authorities said.

Carlos Martin Quintana-Arias, of Mexico, was driving a 2009 Kenworth Tractor pulling a 1996 Stoug trailer when he applied for entry into the U.S. at the Otay Mesa, California, Commercial Port of Entry on Thursday night, authorities said.

A drug-sniffing dog then alerted CBP officers to the rear door of the trailer. Further inspection revealed that among "a few automotive" parts were 6,266 packages of drugs, officials said.

Methamphetamine was found in 6,106 of the packages – weighing about 17,584 pounds – while the other 160 packages contained fentanyl and weighed about 388 pounds, according to authorities.

The CBP confirmed that the drug seizures were the largest busts in the U.S. for both meth and fentanyl for this year and last year, prosecutors said.

The Otay Mesa, California, Commercial Port of Entry is one of three ports of entry in the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan region in California.

"This is a staggering seizure that demonstrates the extent of our current fight against mass production of methamphetamine and fentanyl," acting U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said, thanking all the agencies involved in the bust.

Quintana-Arias faces federal drug charges and was arraigned Friday. A detention hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

388 pounds of fentanyl! That is enough to killed 40 million people (at an LD50 of 0.002 g).

388 pounds = 175,994 grams = 175,994,000 milligrams = 175,994,000,000 micrograms

25 mcg might be a "beginner" dose. But lets say 40mcg.

175,994,000,000 / 40 = 4,399,850,000

4.4 billion doses

Maybe they should hang him from the nearest light post so all those crossing the border can see.

Yeah, but is that really realistic? Isn't that like 2 dozen George Floyds?

And this is what they 'caught'. Can you imagine how much of this stuff is getting in unfettered?

This is war with China… The poisoning of our people causing more deaths than Covid (in my county). Oh - and then there is the bio-terror weapon COVID-19. Again this is war.

Want to bet this was a truck approved for "free flow" as part of our free trade agreement with Mexico? And they only did the X-ray inspection because of the dog. Otherwise, it would have sailed through.

Why? What kind of idiot smuggler would pack a whole truck with drugs and only a few "auto parts" if they had any fear of inspection? Mules might be dumb but cartel smugglers are smarter than that. This was supposed to be a done deal and some cowboy Border Patrol officer with a dog got in the way. Hopefully the officer is not retaliated against.

Perhaps our government should look at Singapore’s drug penalties. They don’t have repeat offenders.

The driver is a Mule, and knows where he picked up the load, and where he's dropping it off. That's it. Probably didn't know what the load was.

I don't care how much you "sweat" him in an interview room, or go the other way and torture him.
He ain't saying a damn thing.
Whatever you think you're going to do to the driver, the Cartel is going to do 10x worse to his entire living DNA strand and everything remotely connected to it.

Locking him up and throwing away the key, a high bond/no bond isn't going to accomplish anything except for putting a low level truck driver in jail. There's 20 more to take his place.

Whatever warehouse that semi was loaded is already empty.

1 pound of Meth is (-/+) $9000 to $14000. Depending on where the transaction is.
THAT Meth, $9000 a pound. Move that raw pound straight off that shipment to LA, $12000. Move it further past Palm Springs; $14000 for the same pound after its broken up.

The distributor value of just the Meth in that shipment is (-/+) $158,256,000.
Yeah, that's going to hurt whoever it belongs to, but don't worry, there's another shipment coming in soon. The price on the street will go up a little to adjust for the loss in the market, but that's the price of doing business.

The Fentanyl, and this is just a guess looking at location- came from China imported into Mexican ports along the coast controlled by the Nuevo Generacion Cartel, then funneled either directly into the US or sold to another Cartel then funneled into the US.

So when it’s your child or grandchild or even your spouse… Let’s just kill them all? Is that your reasoning?

Shame they couldn’t stimulate domestic demand for this shit so they wouldn’t need to send it to us. I mean, that is the party goal right, to increase internal demand for goods and be less reliant on trade? You would think they would at least have the decency to be embarrassed about being a major source of illicit drugs, what with their strict social standards and history with Opium, but I guess it doesn’t make them look bad enough on the world stage.
