Go ahead punk, make my day |
Yeah, you can't expect to win after leaving 10 players on base, some in scoring position (Astros). Congrats Nats, they wanted it more and came through in the end.

Must be a full-scale picture of the Corvette... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
Strasburg came through, as did all the lead pitching. It was fun to watch. This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. -Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Joshua Painter Played by Senator Fred Thompson

Did Hinch take a page from the Dave Roberts book of managing? I thought he had pulled Greinke a little too early and didn’t go to Cole. Was Hinch waiting for game 8? _____________

Go ahead punk, make my day |
Hindsight is always 20/20 but I thought he was going to Cole. He had to pull Greinke when he did - HR, 1 on, 1 out - if he gave up another HR right then it would be his fault, of course the reliever threw one pitch and gave up that HR, and the rest is history...

My 11yr old son mentioned the irony of Harper I told him the Phillies paid him ~$35M or so this year to not win the World Series. I think he's ok with it. Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed. Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists. Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

A couple of notes from my end. And since I inadvertently stepped on Para's toes, I don't want to make the same mistake... Washington, D.C. is probably the most divisive city in the country. For a couple of days, anyone wearing a red jersey is united in the same blush of victory. It won't last, so we need to enjoy it while we can. Personally, some of my best memories as a kid were of my dad taking me to Griffith Stadium to watch the Senators play. Sometimes we'd sit in the dark on the porch and listen to Nats games on the AM transistor radio. That my dad wan't the warmest of fathers, these were the times I felt closest to him. He never lived to see his baseball team win a World Series. Now I have, and in my heart, I share this with him. In my days living in and around Washington, D.C. I have now been witness to the following championships. It's been a long haul: 1978 - Washington Bullets (now Wizards): NBA 1982/87/91 - Washington Redskins: NFL 1996/97/99/04 - D.C. United: MLS (okay, I don't consider soccer on the same level as other sports, but still...) 2002 - Maryland Terrapins: NCAA Men's Basketball (I received my undergraduate degree from UMd). 2006 - Maryland Terrapins: NCAA Women's Basketball 2018 - Washington Capitals: NHL 2019 - Washington Mystics: WNBA 2019 - Washington Nationals: MLB The last is the icing on my cake. I can now die happy to have witnessed a World Series championship! You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. One of my co-workers came in today wearing a World Series Champions shirt. I asked him if he'd attended the watch party last night, where they started selling them right after the game was over. No, he told me. He went to Dick's, which opened at 6:30 this morning. He said the checkout lines were unbelievable -- at that time of the morning, no less. Reportedly, Dick's is receiving shipments of apparel and memorabilia hourly. But, since it's Dick's, I won't be going there.
