Update: Went to the DMV to get WI plates. They took my drivers license (FL) and my old registration (MD). I was out in 30 minutes with new plates and registration. EASY DAY. No unnecessary crap like fake owners title as in Maryland (it's a title for a financed vehicle).

The food up here is pretty good so far. There are two little pubs within a block of the new house. I get to see the house in person tomorrow for the first time so I'm excited about that.

Folks have been stereotypically midwestern nice up here, though I suspect they don't like my use of the word Maam as much. I've gotten a few double takes so far.

Tenuta's Deli is 6 blocks from the house so I'm gonna definitely be giving that a try after everything I've heard.

I've got Pete's Guns and Ammo scoped out as a potential FFL since its only a couple miles north of the house.

Overall I'm pretty damn excited.

OP: Loaded up the U-Haul yesterday, probably stop somewhere between Louisville and Indianapolis this afternoon before making our way up tomorrow.

I’m excited! We got 12 days in a hotel before we close on our house. Plus unloading the truck into storage, getting the kids enrolled in school, etc.

Gonna be another long day today.

Safe travel. I'm in NC helping get my mom moved from one house to another. Today is loading day and the close on her home sale. Tomorrow is unload in new location after closing on it in the morning. Then the unpacking begins.
Have I mentioned that I hate the moving process?
To top it off it has been miserably hot here in NC, so we have that going for us.

It's just surprise, not objection. I've lived here my whole life and never thought it was a problem if someone from the South says "Sir" or "Ma'am". In fact, I think it adds a nice layer of respect to public interaction.

You don't need to worry about someone thinking you are acting odd unless you hear "That's different". Pretty much the Midwest equivalent of "Bless your heart"

Welcome to Wisconsin....My wife is a Cheese Head from northern Wisconsin.. I am from south Louisiana.... My main complaints about Wisconsin is the winter weather and the lack of good southern/cajun/south Louisiana seasoning.. Too bland tasteing. ....................... drill sgt.

Agree with this. I say Sir and Ma'am all the time, and it's never caused an issue except a couple of times when I've gotten the gender wrong. No, not a transgender thing...older lady just looked like a dude, and after I said "sir" she responded "I'm a ma'am". That was awkward.

But yeah, if you hear "That's different", that's sign for concern!

Learn to say yep and you betcha. As a teen we used to travel to Wisconsin to stay in a cheap motel and fish. Small town taverns have fish frys most Fridays. Worked in small town Wisconsin for two or three years. Often miss the summers there.

Just so you know, there is a gun store just a little north of Kenosha right off I94 called Mission 94, IIRC. It's owned by the Pritzker family. The Pritzker family as in Illinois Governor Pritzker, the Governor in Illinois who is rabidly anti gun and anti-Second Amendment. Those Pritzkers.

Don’t be getting bamboozled by spotted cow beer. First off, it’s not that good, and the company is owned by a rabid lefty.

There’s plenty of better choices. The one you really want is something from ‘Central Waters Brewery’. They support common sense.
