Ocasio-Cortez: State Of America Is 'Garbage,' Reagan Pitted Whites Against Minorities

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggested during a talk on Saturday that America is "garbage" and that former President Ronald Reagan presented a "racist" vision of the country that "pitted" white working class people against minorities in order "to screw over all working-class Americans."

Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks while speaking at the left-leaning South by Southwest Conference & Festivals in Austin, Texas.

"One perfect example, I think a perfect example of how special interests and the powerful have pitted white working-class Americans against brown and black working-class Americans in order to just screw over all working-class Americans, is Reaganism in the '80s when he started talking about welfare queens," Ocaiso-Cortez said. "So you think about this image of welfare queens and what he was really trying to talk about was ... this like really resentful vision of essentially black women who were doing nothing that were 'sucks' on our country."

"And it's this whole tragedy of the commons type of thinking where it's like because these one, this one specific group of people, that you are already kind of subconsciously primed to resent, you give them a different reason that's not explicit racism but still rooted in a racist caricature," Ocasio-Cortez continued. "It gives people a logical reason, a 'logical' reason to say, 'oh yeah, no, toss out the whole social safety net.'"



Asked moments later about the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and the $15 minimum wage, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that America is in decline and that the current state of America is "garbage."

"I think the thing that is really hard for people to sometimes see is that when we are on this path of a slow erosion and a slow, slow, slow, just like move away from what we've always been, we'll be a hundred miles, you'll, you know you won't even realize that you've drifted a hundred miles," Ocasio-Cortez said. "So, when someone's talking about our core, it's like oh this is radical, but this isn't radical, this is what we've always been."

"It's just that now we've strayed so far away from what has really made us powerful, and just, and good, and equitable, and productive, and so I think all of these things sound radical compared to where we are but where we are is not a good thing," Ocasio-Cortez continued. "And this idea of like 10% better from garbage, is, shouldn't be what we settle for, it's like this like it feels like moderate is not a stance it's just an attitude toward life of like hmmm."

I find it kind of disappointing that this dipstick ever successfully "graduated" from kindergarten, let alone college and actually got elected to that office. Shows just how non-functional our schools have become.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's defunct book publishing company 'owes $1,870 in back taxes'

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez founded a children's book publishing company in 2011.

Brook Avenue Press, which has since been dissolved, reportedly owes $1,870.36 in corporate taxes to New York State.

Ocasio-Cortez was 22 years old when she started the company through a city-funded incubator in The Bronx.

The company was aimed at 'helping develop stories and literature in urban areas' for children, but it doesn't appear to have published a book.

Taxes are always cheaper if you don't have to pay them.

AOC Slams Capitalism As "Irredeemable" System

During an hour-long interview with The Intercept's political editor Briahna Gray, Ocasio-Cortez expounded on the many (in her view) flaws of capitalism, which she once again confused with crony capitalism, the racist underpinnings of FDRs New Deal, abolishing ICE, incrementalism and the 'moderate mindset'.

On the subject of capitalism, AOC warned that America is grappling with the consequences of putting "profits over everything else in our society" for so long, and that the capitalist system, as it stands, is "irredeemable." Though, apparently, the irony of bashing capitalism at a bougie tech-industry financed marketing orgy was lost on her.

"Capitalism is an ideology of capital - the most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit...so to me capitalism is irredeemable," she said.

Speaking on the subject of her Green New Deal, Ocasio-Cortez said she hopes to take care of minority communities and places like Flint, Michigan, first, because these groups were left behind by the original New Deal - the one passed by FDR.

While most Americans see the New Deal as the progenitor of welfare programs that benefit millions of White and minority Americans, Ocasio-Cortez said that the law was, in fact, deeply racist, because of something called "red-lining."

"The New Deal was an extremely economically racist policy that drew little red lines around black and brown communities and it invested in white America."

"It allowed white Americans access to home loans that black Americans didn’t have access to, giving them access to the greatest source of intergenerational wealth."

Anybody out there could see that that was what was going to happen.

Problem: These are ideas that have been tried before — in New York's recent past. The rubble of the South Bronx, the crime waves Mick Jagger sang about, and the municipal bankruptcy from which Gerald Ford told New York to "drop dead" rather than rescue, were all the result of corruption and incompetence, which were reversed with the election of Rudy Giuliani in 1993.

Well, now that specter is appearing, and it came in all of five years.

Will New Yorkers and others enamored of socialism ever learn from this? Maybe that's the question to start seeking answers about. How bad does it have to get and why must it always get bad for anyone to wake up?

“We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited by it is because we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die. And that is, at its core, our problem.”
