How's that gun control working out Maryland?? One of the newest top additions to the Baltimore Police Department was robbed at gunpoint alongside his wife over the weekend, according to officials. Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were walking Friday night around 9 p.m. near Patterson Park in the southeast part of the city when a white SUV with four people inside pulled up next to them, police told FOX Baltimore. Two black males, believed to be about 18 years old, then got out of the vehicle and showed a handgun while demanding the victims hand over their property, police said. The two suspects then fled with a purse, wallet, cash and multiple cellphones. BALTIMORE MAYOR, AT ANTI-GUN RALLY, SUGGESTS BOXING MATCHES COULD SETTLE 'BEEF' Murphy, who is listed as the deputy commissioner for the compliance bureau in a Baltimore Police Department organizational chart, was hired earlier this year by Commissioner Michael Harrison. Murphy previously worked as the deputy superintendent of compliance for the New Orleans Police Department, where the two previously worked together, according to the Baltimore Sun. Murphy was hired to oversee the Baltimore Police Department's compliance with its federal consent decree and told the Baltimore Sun in April the two cities face similar issues. “I think the challenges are very similar” in Baltimore and New Orleans, Murphy told the newspaper at the time. “Obviously, every community, every police department is unique, but the success we had in New Orleans is directly transferable to here and we will modify it as necessary.” Baltimore has been working to implement a federal consent decree mandating sweeping reforms after U.S. investigators detailed longstanding patterns of unconstitutional policing and excessive force. In addition to a police department that's distrusted by many residents, Charm City has seen a mix of chronically high rates of violent crime. The city of Baltimore is one of the most dangerous in America, according to the FBI, totaling more than 300 homicides for four years running. (AP Photo/Steve Ruark) Baltimore has been in the throes of a steep rise in violent crime since 2015, when the homicide rate spiked amid the city’s worst rioting in decades following the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died in police custody. In 2017, the FBI placed the city on its "Crime in the U.S." list. Baltimore was listed well above that of any other large American metropolis, with the 342 homicides notched that year yielding a stunning homicide rate of 56 per 100,000 people. Authorities said the robbery is under investigation. Good for Danny and his wife! I hope he gave the thugs a big old hug right after he gave them his wife's purse! Really show off this whole "kinder, gentler policing" he's representing! My question/ concern would be whether any of the "multiple cell phones" were Baltimore PD issued phones and if so did they have any department intel or other secure info not intended to be released. ie Contact Lists containing personal contact info on other department officers/ judges/ DA, lists of CI's, undercover officers, planned raids or busts, evidence in cases etc... and whether the thieves could access that info.

I'm sure some in Maryland will use this to push more gun control. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain. Jack Kerouac

I wondered about that also but assumed that since it wasn't mentioned in the list of stolen items that either he wasn't carrying a gun or that the thieves never discovered that he was carrying one and he kept that fact hidden.

Wait. Are they saying robbery is still illegal there? It’s legal out here. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

what kind of useful 'intelligence could be on the phones of a group of people too stupid to understand the implications of the Second Amendment and personal safety...pretty sure that NO ONE in Baltimore is smart enough to connect any dots, even if there are only two of them as for the 'I told you so ' moment, couldn't have happened to a nicer couple [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

The phone (s) would likely be locked and encrypted. And also remotely wiped fairly quickly. If you have an iPhone or reasonably modern Android phone it's hard enough for the police to get into with a search warrant that I wouldn't give two dirtheads a snowball's chance in hell at noon on July of getting into it. Realistically, as soon as they figure(d) out who they'd robbed, they would ditch all of it.
