One of the newest top additions to the Baltimore Police Department was robbed at gunpoint alongside his wife over the weekend, according to officials.

Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were walking Friday night around 9 p.m. near Patterson Park in the southeast part of the city when a white SUV with four people inside pulled up next to them, police told FOX Baltimore.

Two black males, believed to be about 18 years old, then got out of the vehicle and showed a handgun while demanding the victims hand over their property, police said.

The two suspects then fled with a purse, wallet, cash and multiple cellphones.

A man purse? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hmmm. Looks like Doogie Howser. I think the pic is his 8th grade graduation shot. Of course he could be the Clark Kent type, even though he looks more like Jimmy Olsen, cub reporter.

Now for the real question: how many man hours and how many resources will be used trying to find these perpetrators that would not be expended if this had happened to John Q Citizen?

All his online photos look like that.

He looks like the perfect victim. Probably carrying some cash and valuables, no gun, and no will to fight back in any way. Hope this happens to him every week, until he learns something.

Good to hear that 'gun violence' is being generous and equal in its victims.

Danny Murphy graduated from Georgetown in 2009, so he's roughly in his early 30s.

His work experience entails working for a non-profit organization as a program assistant for a year, working as a grants manager for a school district for 2 years, then working at New Orleans PD for 4 years as a compliance manager and eventually Deputy Superintendent of the Compliance Bureau. He was then recently hired as Deputy Commissioner of the Compliance Bureau at Baltimore PD.

So this guy has never served as a police officer, and has zero law enforcement experience or even criminal justice-related experience or education. He's a "police reform" bureaucrat, not a cop.

Luckily, this "Deputy Commissioner for Compliance" position is not a sworn/certified position, so he's not an actual police officer, and he doesn't get to carry a gun or do any police work. He most likely sits in an office and compiles reports and statistics to see if the PD is in compliance with their consent decree with the feds.

They just give him a fancy title to show the feds that they're very serious about this business, and because it makes Danny feel better than simply calling him the "civil rights statistics intern". Wink

Ahhh, ok. I made the mistake of seeing "Deputy Commissioner" and thinking this was a seasoned LE professional. So this is one of those PC ramped up jobs that comes with a fancy job title for a non-LE paper pusher... this puts the crime in a much different light.

Thanks RogueJSK!

That was funny. The jokes around the office with the line officers have got to be good. I could see him fitting right in with the cops who work inner city Baltimore. I wonder if he has ever heard of The Wire?
