DANG - Sig228 - What motor in your Tundra. Did not realize any gas motor (assuming it is gas) took 8.5 quarts.

I do it myself so about $25 for Costco synthetic oil plus $10 for oil filter. I don't mind the time and effort to do it myself. I know two people who had quick change places "forget" to add oil (ruining the engine) and one who put on the wrong filter and they lost most of the oil on the drive home. Cheaper isn't always better.

My Duramax uses 10.5 quarts. At @80.00/gallon plus PPE filter. Makes your oil change sound cheap You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

I paid $200 for 3 oil changes at the Dodge dealer for my 2019 Ram pickup. Includes full synthetic oil, filter, tire rotation and wash. So just under $70 each. Not bad for all that you get. My wife's Outback is $180 for 3. I just traded hers for a new one and they will apply the unused ones to the new vehicle. All the quick change places are $100-120.

Not really from Vienna |
Around $110. But my truck takes more than the typical 5 quarts.

The good thing is Toyota recommends oil changes every 10k miles with full synthetic. I average about 7,500 miles a year so that's when I get it changed.

GM 5.3s take 8 quarts as well. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

I change at 5k with 5w30 runs much smoother and quieter. 7k on 0w20 started to get noisy. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

About $80 for my truck, but it takes 3.25 gallons. The Odyssey (2012) takes a little over a gallon, so $30. Both have Fumoto valves which make draining easy. Put the hose into an empty jug from the last oil change, open the valve, let it drain, and close the valve. With the truck, I have to switch jugs of course. My wife’s Explorer takes 1.5 gallons. I just use an oil extraction pump with the hose down the dipstick tube and get almost the full 6 quarts out. The filter is also accessible from the engine bay, so no lift, ramps, or jacking is required. I drop the used oil off at Walmart.

Partial dichotomy |
I too am lucky to have a garage to do my oil changes. The jugs of Mobil 1 0-20 at Walmart are up to $32 and the Honda filters I get on Amazon amount to about $8 ea buying several at a time. My Honda CR-V takes 4 1/4 qts.

Japanese engines have smaller oil passages. Waiting beyond the ‘service required’ light, which I think is 5000 miles, will eventually narrow the smaller passages and starve critical parts. Kias are especially vulnerable to that. Better to change the oil when the computer says. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

On my POV I buy 5W20 synthetic blend and a filter and furnish my own labor. Around $22. Average in the repair shop I work for, with full synthetic, is around $67, more if it takes over 5 quarts.

Can I switch to a synthetic blend on my Mazda5? Currently calls for 0W-20

Check with your dealer. Honda did mine for $20 if I supplied oil and filter. I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... When you have no future, you live in the past. " Sycamore Row" by John Grisham

My last Porsche, a 993, took 13 qts. of Mobil 1 15W-50 and used two different size oil filters.

I'm fortunate to have purchased a lift just as the pandemic started. I've been changing my cars' oil for the past 30 years because I like to see what's going on down below. Anyway, I bought a 2001 Porsche 911 earlier this year. It takes 9 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40. I think I found it on sale via Sam's or Walmart online for $85 for 12 quart bottles. Retail stores would have been $110-130 for that case of oil. My daily drivers are Hondas and I go 5000 to 7000 miles. Cars of the past 20 years all use the same filter and 5W-20 or 5W30. I order filters on Amazon and go to Wallyworld for 5 quart bottles. Penzoil has stopped traditional oil and sells only synthetic blend. Oh well. P229
