Get my pies outta the oven! |
I just made an appointment with a local place for the wife's Odyssey; $74.93 for full synthetic. Seems that it was only $50-$60 not that long ago We had been using Firestone but my last full synthetic change there for my Mazda was over $100 and that was with a coupon, plus they tried telling me I needed new brakes and tires, wrong answer. Just had both done within the past 12-15 months. Another place I looked at locally does a synthetic blend for $65, would I be able to switch to that for my Mazda when that's due again? It's a daily driver/beater with 166,000 miles on it and would not break my heart if it had to be replaced in the next year or two.

$80 ish sounds about right. Don't like it, but that's the going rate. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . Yeah that's not happening I have neither the time or skill these days to do that I don't even have a driveway or garage at my house, that is a future project though.

^^^ Yeah, I'm fortunate. I have plenty of space and I can just let it drain while cutting grass or other outside projects. I do let it drain for longer than the quick change places and I use better filters. "Some things are apparent. About $100 with a coupon. My truck uses 6 quarts. They always ding me because the advertised price at all those shops are for 5 quarts. I follow the OEM guideline of 5k or 6months. They will also let me provide an OEM filter. No discount but they will install it if I bring it.

I used to do it myself when I had more time than money. By the time I spend $40-50 for parts. Including the trip down to Walmart. Then an hour at least on my back. And worry about spilling a drop on the driveway and irritating the wife. The extra few bucks to have someone else do it is worth it.

Thank you Very little |

I remember once when I was in High School (we had 5 trucks for the business and 3-4 cars), someone saying to my dad "You're lucky, you can fix them yourself." He replied.. "I don't feel lucky."

I'm charging about $90 for a 6qt full synthetic oil change at my shop, most newer trucks and suv's are closer to $125 with the huge oil capacities. This is in Newark, DE. Prices are pretty variable by location, and I try to stay on-par with other local independent guys I know, and about 20% less than the hack-o-matic quick lube places. We are lucky to make $10-$15 on an oil change when labor, disposal, etc is factored in. It gets even worse when we have to break out the big scan tools to reset the oil life/inspection/whatever other warnings that the Euro cars have built in. I had been going to the local VW dealer for 15 years until they sold the dealership & I had to wait 4 hours with an appointment. I can not find any shop that wants to do oil changes so I went to the Valvoline place. $90 for 15 min, but having to put up with the cabin filter bullshit. I used to do it myself but at 78 my back will no longer let me. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! I hate this but costs have gone up and are continuing to rise. Shop around a bit, but with the current situation that $$$ amount is probably about right. Good luck to you. .

The Chevy dealer wants to actually turn a profit, and the GMC dealer treated it as a loss leader for up-sales. "America could use some turpentine, all the way from Hollywierd to New York City." -- Phil Robertson

Filter from Wallyworld $10 Oil from FCP Euro. They have a lifetime replacement guarantee even on fluids (yup sounds crazy but they do. I did not believe Chowser when he told me but sure enough) so it cost $15 for me to ship the old oil back and you get store credit. Takes 2 oil changes really before shipping oil back. https://www.fcpeuro.com/produc...r-liqui-moly-lm20228 ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If only the car in the icon didn't take 9 qts of specific Castrol Edge 10W-60. I'm in for $200+ just on oil, filter and crush washers before lifting the car myself..... SUV with 5 qts "normal" synthetic is about $190 at Merc dealer, $60-70 at home. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02
