For real... why the hell isn't this in the pistol section?

Because it's a philosophical question as much as it is a practical one since most of us who carry don't do so with lights and lasers and water divination instrumentation attached to the rail, top plate, and side wings of our pieces. For some an attractive gun is one without all that stuff, and by manufacturers abandoning that preference, they've purposely or un-purposely created a market gap for a segment of the shooting public.

Are all cars, homes, and fighter jets altered to accommodate features we don't want or use ? Then why do gun manufactureres do so anyway across the board ? Sure we know the answer why, but it still begs the argument to be made imho.

I agree with everything the OP said. But also thought about getting off my lawn. Not only does every damn pistol have a rail on it, now they’ve got an ugly cut out on top for a red dot.

When the rail thing started, I didn't care for it because I thought they were kinda ugly, especially on the Berettas and CZ75s. Then I ended up getting some guns with them and realized that I don't feel the rail when I carry it, it doesn't cause any issues with the holster, and it has no effect on how the gun shoots. So I don't care.

Optics are ugly, but they measurably improve my shooting performance, so I want one on any handgun I can put one on. I don't care how it looks.

Front serrations are a bigger problem for me than either of the other two things. I don't use them, I think they're gamer bullshit, and they've actually caused problems for me a couple of times with holsters. My Springfield Loaded 1911 has super sharp front serrations that actually chew up leather holsters. I even took a file to the edges to try and smooth them out a little bit... thankfully it's stainless. And my P226 Elite slide was hanging up on the suede inside of a Safariland Duty holster to the point where I had to chisel the lining out of it. Racking the slide from the back around the optic works just fine for me. It keeps my hand further away from the muzzle and I get more leverage and control.
