Could all flights from a military airbase be shut down if there are drones over the base? Since the military is apparently not allowed to interfere with them, might this be an easy, inexpensive way to effectively shut down air operations?

The first drone arrived shortly. Kelly, a career fighter pilot, estimated it was roughly 20 feet long and flying at more than 100 miles an hour

Guys. A 20 foot long drone is NOT a hobbyist size drone. That's 2/3 the size of a Predator! If the account is correct they'd definitely be able find where they came from and where they're going.

To just shrug your shoulders and say ohh well... is ridiculous.

The most technically advanced military in the world and we can't figure out where drones are coming from.

Considering the fact that an enormous (200’ tall) Chinese spy-ballon carrying an estimated 2,000 pounds of sophisticated surveillance equipment, traversing over parts of Alaska and the entirety of the USA, traveling ~4,500 miles at an astonishing 30 mph or so before finally being shot down off the coast of SC, I am afraid that the US Military may be hopelessly and helplessly befuddled on how to counter these ‘mystery’ drones.

There is no way in hell I believe our government doesn't know who is behind this, if it happened at all. Just like the mystery balloon that floated across the US some months back. Sounds more like state-sponsored internet BS.

I listened to a Podcast with a couple of Tier one guys who said the next attack in the USA will be ala a Mumbai or Oct 6th style with guns and bombs (grenades or homemade). The attack AFTER that one will be suicide drones. Their reasoning is that Russia has been very successful using suicide drones made by Iran. So successful, that Russia is opening a factory to manufacture suicide drones. Just remember that the Russian business model is 10 weapons out the front door with 5 out the back door.

"A report by the Wall Street Journal reveals that mysterious drones have been conducting surveillance over several sensitive US military sites, including the Navy SEAL Team Six base and Naval Station Norfolk, for an extended period. The Pentagon has struggled to respond to these intrusions due to legal and logistical challenges.

"The drone activity, which occurred over the past year, involved swarms of drones flying over military bases in Virginia and Nevada.

One notable instance involved Langley Air Force Base, home to the F-22 Raptor fighter jet, where dozens of drones were observed flying over the base at night for 17 consecutive days in December 2023"

Don't we have "anti drone" drones? If we could keep bombers with nukes in the air 24/7 sixty plus years ago, we should be able to keep a stinking drone on standby 24/7 today.

There's A LOT more to this than what is being released or, let on and whatever statements are being put out there are just...food for the media. No way that the military is unable to track an object of that size, estimated it was roughly 20 feet long and flying at more than 100 miles an hour flying around restricted airspace, particularly in this post-9/11 world.

Norfolk Naval Base is home to over 20 Aegis surface ships (arguably the most advanced anti-air radar system in the world) that can track the entire Eastern seaboard and then some, unless they're in some kind of deep maintenance, there's always a watch section on duty of each ship, with several of them readying for deployment. At the very least, it wouldn't be very hard for the chain-of-command to get one or two of those ships to light-up their radar and do a search and track of whatever is concerning them.

I"m going to speculate they (..who, no idea) have a pretty good idea of where these things are coming from and are simply peeling the onion to see how extensive this whole operation goes.

WTF? Like we don't have enough problems. Seems like a relatively easy no-brainer: take one down, disect, investigate and go from there. KISS

Seems like the logical approach.

I figure there are 2 most likely answers. But I could be very wrong and it’s aliens.

1. They are popping out of a container sitting on one of the many container ships traveling off the coast at any time. Containerized surveillance and weapons systems are common. And what better than to hide 1 or 2 special containers on board a ship carrying 12,000 40’ containers.

2. They are ours and we are playing with our bases to test security or ability to track. Would help to explain the kind of nonchalance around the response to the incursions. The more local command is obviously concerned, while it seems higher command is not as urgently looking for the bad actors.

My money is on the first scenario. Aggressor nation probing to see what our capabilities are with counter measures, and what we can or can’t detect. But why tip your hand on any tracking or defense abilities before it is needed. They aren’t seeing anything that satellites or someone on the ground can’t work out or see.

Still wish they would just hit a switch and turn them off to drop out of the sky. Would be a nice middle finger to the owners.

A few ideas

1. Shoot one down. Pick up what is left of it. Analyze it and determine where it originated and what it was recording

2. Intercept the controlling signal and trace it back to the source

3. FOLLOW them after they depart and see where they go, I bet its close to the people operating them.

Sheesh...

Seems simple enough but, but, the Pentagon is stumped. Stumped I say.
