I have a California income tax account. I have to use it to pay my California income taxes via EFT or suffer a 2% penalty if I pay by check. And I’m required to change the account PW at least once a year. A royal PITA, and hazardous. Too easy to screw up the change. And the yearly change is totally unnecessary – I have a long, strong PW using multiple character sets generated by my PW manager. California claims that the Feds require that yearly change. That seems odd – I have two IRS accounts and have used the same long, strong PW for years.. I’m not complaining about the mandate to pay via EFT. It’s a good method – safe, instantaneous and convenient. But I am complaining about the yearly PW charge requirement. Grumble Serious about crackers.

There's worse things than changing a PW.

Complete BS as I file income taxes in several states & sales taxes in about 25 states. A few require PW changes but most do not. I file payroll taxes in IRS's EFTPS for 5 companies and have never changed passwords. Many states increased security this year & have increased my sales tax filing time about 10%. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Yeah, what is the big deal? I'm required to change PW at work every quarter. Q

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. |
Before I retired (GM) I had to change my password every month. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

I doubt the Federal is forcing the PW change. They’re using id.me or login.gov "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. I don’t necessarily believe California’s claim that it’s a Federal mandate that requires my California EFT account PW to be changed animally. But whatever the reason, I do have to change that PW annually or I lose access to my account. You’re wrong in stating “They’re using id.me or login.gov”. Neither is required to login to my California EFT account. Just my own PW and username is required. I paid my California income taxes just this morning. Serious about crackers.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ You should count your blessings most insurance company websites in addtion to Medicare and Medicaid require monthly changes AND two factor authentication. You fail to log in and you wait forever in a long line to beg forgiveness and be given another try. Tricare had this all in place until someone broke in and stole all the hard drives which contained social security numbers of thousands members of our military.

I think he meant the feds require id.me or login.gov, not California. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. I guess I wasn't clear. "They're" is suppose to refer to the "Federal" (government) mentioned in the immediately preceding sentence. I wouldn't doubt what you're saying about your California account; it wouldn't make sense to me that a state government would use the access system as the federal because, you know... bureaucrats. Except maybe for the ACA system as that's under the Federal umbrella. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. I have to check you on Medicare. I log on to Medicare every month to download my claims and I've not had to change my password ever since I set up my account in 2022. I do have to enter a code they text to me and I think it's because I clear cookies and cache every month as well.
