From what I have read, IDF has some really intense "try outs".

Way way way back in the day, my Hebrew 250 professor at Ohio State was a former IDF soldier.

It was not until mid way through the semester that we learned she was an ABN and Mortar instructor..

Thanks again for the kind remarks and well-wishing. I updated the picture with him in his new paratrooper uniforms, sans the red beret, which he has to EARN in about 6-7 months.

Watching my son at IDF basic training graduation streaming at the Western Wall live. My wife and sister in law Ruth are there with him. You salute, swear to serve, and they give you your M4 (symbolically) and a prayer book. Very moving…

He did well in his Gibbush?

Found this online about IDF's Gibushim ("tryouts"). Not how far along he is in the process, but he was selected for the paratrooper brigade, so at least part way. He talked about the first run, sprints, low crawl, running with sandbags, etc.
