My son Elias graduated from Virginia Tech May 2021 with honors and a degree in finance. And put it to use...by joining the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) through the Lone Soldier/"Scouts" program. He previously visited on Birthright in 2019 and briefly (nixed by COVID) as an exchange student at Tel Aviv U in early 2020. Made an impression. He moved to Israel to prep for IDF basic and language training, which he'll complete in about 2 weeks. Graduation and swearing in at the Western Wall, my wife will be there to celebrate. I'll visit in July with my wife as my daughter will be in Israel with an internship after her Birthright trip. Both kids 6000 miles away.
Just found out today that my son and 3 of his Scout friends were selected to join 35th Paratroopers Brigade after a day-long, brutal "tryout" with half of those who started dropping out. Anyhow, proud Dad moment I wanted to share. Here is a picture of him in the new uniform.

I work with Israelis. They are good people. He's gonna find(if he hasn't already) that many many of the Israelis are from different countries. I've had French, Greek, Moroccan and Russian Israelis here. LOTS of them are Russian.
He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.
