My Cayman has it, but theres a switch to deactivate it. Start up car, immediately hit switch. Second nature now.

FAR more annoying; a few years back had my Honda Pilot in for some software upgrade involving the ABS. I get home, shut off the engine, go around to open the passenger side door to unload my stuff...LOCKED. Now I have some sort of SAFETY, door locking BS that Honda refuses to remove. I went round and round with the Service manager over this.

It's MY F'in vehicle. I paid for it. Maybe I don't want 23 different NANNIES.
that automatically do things I don't want!Absolutely maddening.

It’s a different system that works off the flywheel because the first thing everyone thinks of is wearing out the starter.

Some of the better manufacturers build the system to read the cam sensor to see what cylinder is at the best position to fire the coil to get the engine to start back up without using the starter.

Does mine have this? No. There is a possibility of using a scan tool to deactivate start/stop, DRLs, auto door unlock, etc... Wink

Yes, but Ford can't help you because it'll go against their EPA rating.

You can thank certain groups from the Government for the forced auto-off. The same group that created rules killing the small diesel engine, and adding DEF to the other diesels.

Right O. I mean, who really needs a four cylinder Diesel powered car that gets an honest 50mpg?

I was looking to replace my 2015 Highlander when I found out about this 'feature'. I couldn't help wondering what would happen if you got used to it to where you forgot about it until you need a jump late one night and then got stuck in traffic on the way home. Oops! I did find out that there's an aftermarket wiring harness that will change the default on the switch to, "Off". So while there is a 'fix', I shouldn't have to fix a new car. As it is, I just decided to keep the old one for a few more years.

If your car has a sports mode, put it there.

I had a Hertz rental (BMW 5 series) with this "feature." Sport mode took care of it, plus a bit more fun to drive

Really? You all bash something that saves you money because you think it will wear out a starter? Do you think that all the engineers at the oems didn’t once consider this? That they just put out a new control system without even once asking “would this harm the starter?” Puhleez.

There are millions of these cars out there and I havent heard of a single starter failing. Im sure they do, but its not a wide spread issue. Im pretty sure they built some durability into them.

My experience is the same as MikeinNC. My new Durango has this stupid feature but you have to shut it off every time you start the truck.
Mad
My service dept refused to permanently disable it.
I may check the fuse box to see if I can yank a fuse and shut it off for good.
Meanwhile, I took a label maker and made this label and stuck it on the dash:
Disable Start / Stop !!!

Our new hybrid Ford Police Interceptor utility functions like that. Shutting the motor off when it has enough electric to run. It will start the gas engine at any time it needs to.
Then just before the first 700 miles two spark plugs fouled check engine light came on.
Not sure if this had a reason for the engine starting and stopping so much.

Good news no further problems so far after it was fixed by Ford.

I wedged a wad of paper in between the switch and the dash so I don’t have to keep doing it.

I talked to ford and they say that the truck would have to be reprogrammed to keep the truck running- and they won’t do it.

Google ForScan and head over to the F150 forums you can reprogram it yourself.

I have made a number of changes to my Expedition the dealer says can’t be done. Thankfully mine does not have this terrible feature.

My car doesn't have it thank goodness. It's a standard feature, but since mine is the Sport model I guess they decided to leave it off. Smile

My first experience with this "feature" was in a BMW 320d last fall in Ireland. It may be a smoother operation with a gas engine but with a diesel it was jarring every time it activated.

I will never own a car with that stupid feature. I don’t care if it saves gas it’s annoying as hell.

My 2020 CRV has it and I hate it. Restart from off is not smooth or seamless. I can shut it off but must do with each start. I can also defeat it by not fully depressing the brake pedal at a stop.

Our Ford Escape has it. If you drive it in sport mode it bypasses it. Or you can shut it off with a switch. No big deal really.
