I called b.s. On the storm heading up the east coast. I ran around and got supplies for the aftermath. We boarded up the house on Wednesday and packed a trailer with as much stuff as I could to save. Thursday morning we left town and dropped the trailer with a friend in northern FL and kept on to family in Blairsville, GA. Took back roads the entire way. It was longer but it was easy driving and we kept moving the entire time.

I was unable to secure a generator down in Tampa but did pick up a 2" pump just in case I return to a flooded house. Had family in Blairsville snag me a generator that I can take back with me if need be. Going to check in with a few neighbors who stayed to get a status report.

Thanks. I forwarded the article to my friend.

If the retention pond overflows, it will be as a result of the wind and rain from the hurricane, so there may be an argument he can make. It certainly qualifies under the "Named Storm", doesn't it?

The conclusion, though, says property owners should have flood insurance, so we'll see what happens.

Flood insurance is a totally separate company and policy you need to have. If the damage is from the floor up it's flood insurance. If the damage is from the top down it's hurricane insurance. That's how my agent explained it.

Largo, FL checking in (20 miles outside of target Tampa).

We'll start getting the tropical storm winds Sunday a.m. and will pick up quick as the day goes on.

Sh!t hits the fan Sunday night through Monday morning.

Not expecting flooding in my zone but the winds (potential Cat 3) are gonna kick the crap out of us.

House is shuttered up. We have supplies.

Probably heading to a shelter first thing tomorrow a.m.

Be safe all.

We already lost our power here today for the first round. From 8:30am-1pm. Since restored, we've been solid since but I'm sure that it won't be our last interruption, it's almost to be expected on my feeder consisting of both overhead and underground. It's the overhead on my feeder with the trees that gets us in trouble. Lot's of wind squalls and rain consistent since about 4pm here in Cutler Bay on the SE coast.

We haven't lost power at all today here in pompano beach. So far so good, looks like we might not even see hurricane force winds

Was at my place in Naples for a week vacation. Was planning on riding it out until Friday. Decided to bug out Friday morning at 10:00. Returned the rental and borrowed my il-laws' SRX. Older model completely gutless with seats as comfortable as Spirit Airline seats. It got the job done however. Got home at noon today driving straight thru minus sleep in a parking lot from 6am to 8am. Worst long trip I have ever taken. Unreal traffic, unreal accidents, unreal delays, unreal gas availability. Looking at the forecast just now and I'm glad we left. My place in Naples is in the Stage 1 flood plain. I'm guessing my second floor unit will be ok sans some breakage but I'm pretty sure the two units below me will have water running through them. I would have moved inland a few miles by now if I stayed but definitely some scary ****. I have a former Chief of Police Uncle in law that is staying in Fort Meyers. He's 20ft above the water but he and his wife are not super mobile so we worry. Offered to take them with us but he wanted no part of that. I genuinely fear for their safety. I initially gave my wife some **** about leaving but have since ate crow and told her it was absolutely the right call. I'll watch the details from the comfort of my family room couch.

Probably heading back down in a week or two to assess. Cover any broken windows and get AC running. Have other relatives in Naples that are out of town on vacation so I might have lots of damage to assess.

Praying for all you that are holding it down and safe travels for those evacuating!!

Our place is right on the Manatee/Sarasota County line a couple miles north of the airport and about 2.5 miles from Longboat Key.
Thankfully no one is at our place currently. Grandparents are slated to go down for the winter the 1st week of October but I am guessing that will be postponed.

I plan on heading down in a week or so to asses the damage once it is a bit easier to get back in.

Trying to come up with a list of things I want to bring besides the standard plywood and a couple of generators, or maybe more. Not sure how I'm going to feel about watching the carnage on tv tomorrow.

Tampa checking in

Boarded up the vulnerable side of the house. Gonna ride it out. Only really worried about the several trees in my and my neighbor's yards.

I live in a 95 year old house. It has been through a lot. A couple of Yetis, about 100 gallons of water and two cases of frozen water bottles for the coolers. Food for 10 days both fresh and nonperishable.

Been through worse unscathed, hope the same this time.

11:00 update is showing a direct overfly of Tampa. My boy is excited to see the eye.

Double Eye wall now, that's very good, makes it more difficult to intensify. Looking like a Cat 3 for Tampa Bay.

In the hangar. It should be safe there. The hangars are all fairly recent construction; I believe that code calls for 115 mph wind resistant.

A photo below. The doors that show a horizontal line midway up the door are electrically operated bifolds. The one piece doors, as in the third hangar from the left, swing up hydraulically. Ours is the latter type, one piece, hydraulic. There are three "hurricane bolts" on the inside, along to bottom of the door, that drop down into holes in the concrete floor, so the door is probably very secure. I'm guessing that the weakest point might be the roof, but I have no reason to be concerned about it. My reloading room is upstairs in the office section; it should be OK.

Took a quick peek outside home, both front and rear. Wind is starting to howl at times and you hear debris banging and clanging against the house. Lots of wind blown debris on the grounds, tree branches, palm branches etc. Rain squals starting to be more consistent. Power is still solid since restored this afternoon but the feeder is still relaying occassionally. I'm guessing we will still loose it completely upon closer approach of the storm. It did finally move off Cuba and has the Keys in it's cross hairs. We are on the dirty side of the storm the right front quadrant so I suspect that we will have more wind and rain for the better part of Sunday. The cat has been pacing around the home but he's quite the little trooper and will fare well. I hear they already lifted the "life threatening" Roll Eyes storm surge from the Broward costal areas. We will likely be next I'd suppose No real water flooding or incursion here. Good luck folks and Godspeed!

Things are starting to cook along now here on the SE coast, I'm fairly confident that we may not have power for much longer. At least it's going to start to get lighter outside as we get closer to sunrise.

Good news. Around 113 mph winds between Marathon and Key West just before landfall.
