^^^ Yes, if Eric Swalwell stayed in the race, there would likely be enough fractured voting among the Dems that the two Republicans would be the only two on the November ballot. Still, Steve Hilton will be one of the two on the November ballot and I think he has a good chance. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

His ads run all the time here. He is promising free shit and 25% reduction in housing and utilities. Healthcare for all and no ICE. An older white version of Mamdani.

I think Hilton will be one of the winners in the June primary, but history tells us he won't win in November if the other candidate is a Dem; CA is a supermajority Dem state in every aspect. There is no Voter I.D., and in 2019 Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill to legalize (and legitimize) ballot harvesting, which is now common practice and widespread in CA; ballot drop boxes are everywhere election time, similar to public mail boxes. Every "registered voter" in CA automatically gets a mail in ballot. Democrats will do everything under the sun to not let a Republican win. Very convenient that Swalwell has a line-up of sexual assault accusers to include a hotel video on the eve of a election; none of which were made available during impeachment proceedings a few years ago. The local hard-Lefties have been dying to have him ousted so they can get a women, particularly a minority women into the seat, national Dems kept him around long enough to partner with fellow blowhard Adam Schiff on the impeachment committee to throw anything against the wall and maintain media presecne. The guy thought he was in with the Congressional 'cool kids', little did he realize that he not only had the wrong chromosomes but the wrong melatonin.

Yeah... unfortunately that's true. Tom Steyer will be a formidable candidate. He's also running on "affordability" and against the "real politicians" in Sacramento. Tom has a record of delivering results for California, especially when the real politicians couldn’t. https://www.tomsteyer.com/ "Some things are apparent. Notice the first batch of his ads in March focused on affordability and the economy; fairly middle of the road stuff that is relatable for local concerns. Now, the second bunch of ads are focusing on anti-ICE, anti-Trump rhetoric, nothing to do with local issues. He got people's attention with reasonable points, now the rest of the sheet comes off and he wants to be relatable to the crazies and unreasonable.

That's for the primary... then he'll be back to sounding reasonable for the general. But Steve Hilton could actually do a lot of good for California. Let's hope enough middle of the road people agree. "Some things are apparent. I got out of California almost 30 years ago. Thank God. While I think it would be a hoot to have two Republicans in the general election, it's obvious the Dems aren't going to allow it if at all possible. I do have one question though. With all of this talk about Steve Hilton and how good he could be for California, just how much could he accomplish if he actually wins? He would be facing a Dem super-majority in the legislature and I figure they would just block him from doing anything for four years until they could get one of their own back in office. Good lord, the Dems have held the legislature for over 50 years now. If he wants something passed, they won't let it happen. If he vetoes anything, they can easily override it. On top of that, I believe that their own deep state would tie up anything he might try to do through executive action. To me, without meaningful Republican representation in the legislature, Hilton(or any Republican) would be a lame duck; powerless to do much of anything until he gets booted from office and becomes just a statistical anomaly in California politics. I would love to see him win but, to me, it would be a hollow victory.

It would be a sea change. Steve Hilton has boundless energy and enthusiasm. California once had an optimistic Governor by the name of Ronald Reagan who was able to win hearts and minds and bring Democrats along. "Some things are apparent. afraid that was before super leftists took over the D party, it's no where near the same kind of people that RR had to deal with....

Hilton or Bianco (the sheriff of Riverside County) would bang the drum loudly for four years - hospice fraud, homeless fraud, high energy costs (electric, gas and gasoline), high taxes with constant clamor for more, penalizing productive people, high speed rail's new $168B projected cost, crazy over regulation on every aspect of business..... The Dem held legislature backed by the the public sector unions will have to make some changes, even if they're minor. P229

Yes, the CA senate and assembly each have 3/4 Dems, a supermajority (they only need 2/3), and have the power to do basically anything they want, including tax increase legislation. A Republican governor has virtually no power under this structure; he could veto a bill, and the supermajority would simply override his veto. And if they get tired of Hilton, the Dems could come back at him by launching a recall campaign, something that happens a lot in CA. More than any other state, the Dems have a stranglehold on the CA political system, they own it, lock, stock, & barrel. Keep in mind that Swalwell is still on the ballot and his name can't be removed from the ballot. I love it! Some dumb shits will still vote for him.

The CA Governor has some power but, it's been whittled-down over the last 40+ years. Much of the leverage within CA state government rests within the various Assembly committees that the Governor has to work with. The Speaker of the State Assembly actually has a lot more leverage than the Governor as that person gets to appoint those committee members, can control funds and can control which bills are brought forth for vote. Willie Brown never sat in the governor's chair but, as Speaker of the Assembly his influence was far and wide. While a GOP governor can bring a loud voice to a large visible platform, getting laws passed or streamlining any legislation they'll need to work with the opposition...something Arnold learned back when he won the governorship after Grey Davis was recalled.

^^^^^^^^^ One thing Arnold had going for him (even though he was, and still is a RINO), the CA assembly and senate were not supermajorities during his two terms, so the Dems had to work a bit with the Republicans, not having a 2/3 majority. That of course is no longer the case anymore, the commies now have far more than 2/3 in each house. Q: Why do you hit yourself in the head with a ball-peen hammer? A: Because it feels good when you stop. California isn't ready to stop... "Some things are apparent. I believe there are less lefties in CA than many persons think. The Dems are in power because of voter fraud, without it they would not have a super majority. If voter fraud is reduced through national laws, the Dems will start to lose seats in all elections. Eventually the pendulum will swing back, but only if the fraud is stopped. -c1steve

^ Totally agree, voter fraud is epidemic in California. They're not even trying to hide it anymore.
