Did that back in early 2010 in South Dakota. Mandatory here at the DMV.

The wife and I were just talking about this the other day. Looks like something most folks will have to go to some time or another. Wonder how expensive it is?

Nope...got a passport, don’t need it. Prefer driving to flying.

Got one in NC in 2017 when mile was due for renewal.
Then I got my TX DL when I moved to TX last year...still had to provide proper documentation even though I had a NC Real ID.

I like it, just one more way to prevent illegals form getting an id

$25 in South Carolina.

Passport, SC drivers license, CWP permit and Social Security card were the documents I submitted. After submitting the documents and having a new picture taken for the drivers license, I walked out of the DMV with the Real ID drivers license. Took about 45 minutes.

Montana has pushed this out until the last second. We both have passports and Global Entry.

I use my Global Entry card when I fly. I suppose I'll get a Real ID Montana DL when it expires in 5 more years.

I have to renew my license next year and will get it then.

Last time I flew the TSA agent that checks ID at security reminded me I needed to get before the date. I have a passport and Glodan Entry so not to worried.

Check before going to the soulless hell of your local DMV.

In MS they've met the underlying requirements for some time but just hadn't changed the format of the license to include the magical star. However instead of having to go back to that Dilbert-esque event a second time in 2 years I was able to just get a replacement license online. Same cost plus a couple bucks shipping, had a starred license in my hands in 3 days.

BTW - realize a passport works as an alternative as some of you mentioned. Are you sure you can fly around domestically with just Global Entry?

I'll get around to switching to a real ID drivers license eventually but I'm in no rush. A passport, a passport card or your global entry card will all work for TSA check points for domestic travel. I always use my passport card as I keep it in a much more accessible part of my wallet than my DL. It's just easier to get at when I'm shuffling through the line.

I just renewed when I moved. I fly a lot so makes sense. Pretty easy process.

Mine was due for renewal shortly so I just went online for five minutes and two weeks later the postman dropped it in the box. No lines and no hassle.

MA turned me down because my SS card was laminated.

Even though they had the number in the system for 40 plus years.

I have a passport so maybe when I go to renew I will get someone smarter.

I just renewed my license and I skipped getting the real ID.

I have my passport and I need to get my Military ID renewed so I have those.

I think it is a waste of time and money.

Only the honest people get the real ID anyways.

My SS card is laminated and on rare occasions it has caused me problems. Usually it is due to one a person during the exchange
