How can I obtain a REAL ID-compliant driver license or nondriver ID card?

You can apply for a REAL ID-compliant driver license or nondriver ID card at one of Missouri’s more than 170 license office locations. You will be required to submit the following valid, original documents demonstrating proof of each item at the time you apply:

Identity (one acceptable document to verify full legal name and date of birth);

Lawful Status in the United States (one acceptable document to verify United States citizenship or immigration status);

Social Security Number (one acceptable document);

Missouri Residency (two acceptable documents verifying your Missouri residential address); and

Additional items may be required if your name is different from the name on your identity and date of birth verification document.

Utilize the Department's interactive guide to ensure you have the documents required to apply for your REAL ID.

You may also refer to our complete list of acceptable documents for REAL ID-compliant license and ID card processing.

Got a passport. When my DL expires in 2024 I figure the lines will be shorter

Oregon has been dragging their feed badly on this. They keep requesting (and getting) extensions until the feds finally said "no more extensions", so finally as of July 6 they'll starting issuing Read Id cards. My guess is the lines will be incredible with people wanting to get them before the holiday travel season starts. I've been toying with the idea of getting a passport, but I fly so seldom that it hasn't been a priority. My current DL doesn't expire for two more years, so I'll probably end up waiting until then.

The exact same thing with Pennsylvania.

It's going to be a real cluster*ck and I suspect the Feds will issue one more "OK this is IT! NO MORE after this" type one-year extension as there are too many people out there who don't have current passports who are going to find out they can't fly to Aunt Edna's for Christmas and all hell will break loose. The airlines have been warning of this and trying to make the case that an extension is needed.

I can't find my SS card, so I have to deal with the whole fun of going to the local SS office and waiting in (I'm sure) a long line for some disgruntled gov employee to give me a hard time about getting a replacement. Roll Eyes

I lost my old paper SS card years ago, and didn’t need it when I got my real ID drivers license. They take other instruments with your SSN, like a W-2. Stand in line for a new copy if you want to, but may want to look at other forms of ID they take in lieu of a paper SS card.

Real ID is not just for the TSA, it will soon be required for entry onto military bases and possibly federal buildings as well.

I retired as a civilian from the Rock Island (IL) Arsenal (RIA) three year ago, also retired from the ANG and thus have the mil ID. The local media has reminded people they will soon need Real ID to enter RIA for any reason: Visit the museum, play on the golf course, deliver anything, etc.

I "think" you could get on with an old-style DL and a passport, I tell friends to just get the Real ID.

Yep. One more thing: Don't laminate your SSN card. That will make it "invalid".

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Good to know.

The PA DMV website does not mention this though, they state one of the required items is your SS card.

Had it done a few months ago. A AZDMV web page informs us what REQUIRED paperwork to bring along.

Hardly any waiting and took about 45 minutes and $25 on Visa card.

I'm told in California this process at Cal-DMV takes nearly a whole day.

Did it here in Alaska a few months ago when I moved into the condo. Relatively painless, went to a private contractor that handles DMV issues for a few. Quick and painless except for the $65 in fees associated with it.

Got mine done back in Sept. 2019 when my DL was due for renewal. I had an appointment, but that date was cutting it too close to the expiration, so I said screw it, and went in on my next day off without an appointment. Probably took 1 and a half- 2 hours total.

My passport has been expired for years, so I took in my car registration birth certificate, SS card. I probably took about 6 different documents just in case.

I got my Real Id two years ago when I had to renew my driver's license.
It didn't take any longer than a standard renewal or cost extra.

It wasn’t optional for me. My job requires a fair bit of travel and time in Federal buildings. I took my old DL, my W2, and my birth certificate to the County Clerks office and stood in line for about an hour. Other than the line and presenting the ceremonial paperwork it wasn’t much more than any other license renewal. I wouldn’t advise waiting until the deadline though...
