Para, maybe a bit too personal of a question, but what do you do for a living? You are well educated, I know you have a history of work in video editing, or something along those lines, but it has me curious. You always seem to have eyes on this forum, but I cannot imagine you as retired. You seem more like the “work until I die type”.

So if it’s okay to ask, what in the world do you do?

Previously, I worked in IT. For the past few months, I have been unemployed. To give twenty years of your life to a company, and to plan to pension out with them as your last job, only to have them send your job out of the country, is a bitter pill to swallow.

Foolish of me, wasn't it, to think that an archaic concept such as loyalty would mean anything in corporate America?

Para, I’m sorry to hear that. Twenty years... That really sucks. I don’t know what to say, but I’m sorry that happened to you.

Lots of people are out of work right now. I'm resourceful.

And for anyone wondering why I'm still even bothering with administering this forum, it's because I intend to do my best to keep at least one clean, sane spot in this whole Goddamned dirty world; some place where people who have not lost their minds like the rest of the planet can go, so that they know they are not alone.

I'm no expert, but I'll take a stab at answering a few of your questions.

7) What really goes on in the Forum Administrative Area? It’s the place you guys keep all the wild naked roman orgy pics, right?

You don't want to know.

9) I’m not complaining. And really it has a calming effect. It’s actually quite attractive. The blue and white was good too. But by God, and “By Grabthar’s Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan,” why green?

10) How the heck does one actually successfully use the search feature? Big Grin Wink Razz

You search SIGforum using the query "Search SIGforum for how to search SIGforum."

I am too. I thank you Para.

I do have a question though: what’s the size of the SigForum database?

My younger son is a software engineer, extremely bright but perhaps not as resilient as he needs to be. A prof at UC Davis named Normal Matloff has been writing for years about the dishonesty of tech companies claiming they can’t get American software engineers and they have to have H1B’s. Ironically it was Jeff Sessions who was the only one in Congress to make it a real issue. Most of the GOP critters continue to sell their souls to the tech companies and talk about greatly increasing H1B quotas.

Our son went to Texas in the hottest job market in decades only to see it vanish overnight. It’s quite possible he may never work again.

Mike, I truly appreciate you providing Sig Forum to us and administering it so well. This is my oasis of sanity and correct information in an insane world. Thank you.

Para, thank you for sharing with us some of your own story; I for one will be less judgmental when I don’t totally agree with your policies.

The only moderator I’ve ever met was Circlsq. I think that was his handle. He showed up at a couple of SigForum Shoots that were held in Smoketown PA many moons ago. He spent most of his time shooting clays at the end of the range and was truly a pleasant guy to meet.

Para. Thanks for the forum and the color. I've degenerative eye issues and SigForum is one of a few that doesn't make my brain want to explode.

Sorry on the job front. Tech is one of the shadiest job markets ever.

I will add my thanks, also, para. I'm amazed sometimes that you still let me come (I don't own a SIG, you know).

Only 4GB? My desktop has twice that. I'd have expected it to be much, much, larger.
