It might be my compact; lots of mags, and a kadet kit with 5 mags. It's my favorite trigger. Removing the polycoat, cold blue an polish was a nice project.

I have a safe full of guns. All are my favorite.
When I plan a trip to the outdoor gun range I look through the safe to determine what I want to play with. In my youth I would case up everything I could, as I got older I found I did not want to drag everything out including all the ammo.

Now I pick what I need to site in or accomplish a task with. Then I look for something that will just be enjoyable to shoot, not something that will kick my ass all afternoon.

As far as a final pick, I will always grab the M1 Garand unless I have the will power to move my hand to something else because "I just shot that one the last time I came".
I will almost always take a IHMSA handgun with to enjoy shooting at long ranges.

Classic gun: M1 Carbine. It feels good, has great history, beautiful wood, and is fun to shoot.

In reality though, the gun most likely to go to the range with me is a suppressed B&T APC9. That gun is just plain fun.

USGI M-1 carbine. I usually take my Inland with me shooting but sometimes the National Postal Meter/IBM mix goes out for a spin.

Favorite rimfire pistol is the 6 inch target S&W 422 I bought new around 1990. I have a model 41 that is a much better gun but I just like that 422.

Favorite centerfire handgun is a 6 inch nickel S&W 19-3. It just looks cool!

Edit: I see that Shackelford and I think alike!

My Sig 239 has been a long time favorite. It is slowly being replaced however by my recently purchased Sig 227 Carry SAS as my favorite. SLIGHTLY larger but with a bigger payload.

It's a range gun/nightstand gun. If I could use it as a duty gun, though, I would. I have a P229 SAS that does most of my off-duty CCW work, and a full-size P320 issued for work. I like those a lot, too, but the thread title was "favorite".

I'm a little faster with the P320...striker trigger and all that...but the P226 is just so satisfying to shoot and feels so good in the hand. If I want to go to the range and not worry about training for work, and just shoot for fun but still feel good about the results, this is the gun I take.

It's not even a "real" P226. It's a Revenant Arms "blem" lower (never could find the "blem") with a factory P226 Elite upper that I bought from cyberphobia in the classifieds, and a combination of Matrix Precision, Sig factory, and Grayguns internals. It's got a great trigger, smooth action, and goes into battery with a satisfying thump like a vault door closing. Parker Mountain Machine did the slide milling, and while the window on the 407k is a little small for a range/competition type setup, it fits on there like it was designed around it.

The gun is unique. I put a lot of time into planning and assembling everything that I wanted and setting it up exactly how I wanted it. That doesn't always work out in real life like you planed on paper, but in this case it did. I put it together myself, and overcame a few challenges along the way, so I know everything about it inside and out and there's an almost emotional connection as a result. I tweaked a few things, polished and deburred a few parts, and bedded the grips so there's no flex whatsoever. A Grayguns strut and trigger added some top-quality precision where it counts. There are a lot of other P226s out there but none exactly like this one, and it really is my favorite.

I love my M&P 45 Shield due to ease of carry. I have a P245 that I carry at times when heavy attire is warranted. The Sheild can hide under light clothing. They both are very accurate but I have to give the nod to the P245 on that, it's a tack driver.

My current favorite gun to shoot, have fun with, is my Beretta 1301 Mod 2. Ever since I bought it, it has been on every range trip, I love shooting it. My next favorite is my Wilson Combat EDC X9L pistol, just a marvelous piece of machinery and most fun to shoot as well.

Which of my children do I love best, you ask?

I always mention my GGI-enhanced W German P226, and my Randified S&W 627 PC. But my CMP Custom Shop Special M1 hasn’t arrived yet; I do have vivid memory of shooting someone else’s M1 and being amazed at how accurately even I could shoot that baby. Mine will be in .308 so a little softer shooting.

Colt SAA, 4 3/4” .45 Colt.
Love the way it feels in my hand.

However, I love all my handguns

The colt is my “lap gun”.
