I was hoping for 500lbs trq, but this new gas engine comes close. Actually this new V8 from Ford has more power and torque than my 2010 V10 F250 (362hp & 457trq). And probably gets much better gas mileage. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pg7m5GDNeac

And Ford's already confirmed, it will fit in a Mustang... My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Wait, what? |
Man, that is one torquey plant- already making 400 ft lbs at 1500 rpms out of peak of 475 at 4000 rpm’s. From a normally aspirated gas motor. Well done Ford. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Nice plant, and great upgrade to the transmission. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . The power per liter from that power plant is underwhelming. I would have expected much higher numbers. I suppose longevity was their primary focus rather than earth shattering HP and torque figures. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

It’s a truck engine. It needs to live a long time under load. I’m sure it won’t take the tuners long to turn it into a 1/4 mile machine. I’ve actually been waiting for this motor. I can’t justify late model, electronic Diesel engines. I’ve bought gas on my last two F250 trucks. I’m due a new truck in 2022. I hope they have the bugs worked out by then. Of course by then my favorite trim level from Ford, the XL, will probably cost $50k plus.

Trucks are getting VERY EXPENSIVE man. I was at the Toyota dealership today and my jaw dropped when I saw the price tag on a 6 speed manual TRD PRO Tacoma it was ....drum roll....wait for it....$48,000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Very underwhelming for an all new power plant with that much cubic inch. You don't make an engine last longer by making it less efficient. It's not turbocharged where they kept the boost lower for longevity, that's just excuses. I'm sure the cam and intake are optimized for torque down low for towing. If this ever makes it into a Mustang that will have to be rectified.

Unless they put a manual transmission behind it I'm not buying one.....

This to me as well. The Tundra 5.7 rates 381hp and 401ft/lb with max torque at 3600rpm. The F150 with the 5.0 rates 395hp and 400ft/lb but I couldn't find rpm quickly for that motor. Both engines are pretty long life engines. The RPM is a significant issue though. I would really expect a 7.3 to be over 500ft/lb without much effort or effect on longevity and being a 3/4t is exempt from CAFE numbers last I looked. You can’t really compare hp per liter. This is a pushrod motor so it’s a 2 valve head which means it’s a more compact design but doesn’t flow as much air as a DOHC engine (4valve) per liter.

About half way into the article you can read about putting this in a mustang. https://www.roadandtrack.com/n...ngine-details-specs/ The E van chassis will have a choice of a derated engine. "Freedom is a light for which many men have died in darkness."

Thats not going to happen, wrong power curve for a lightweight car like the mustang, it's designed for heavy haulers... And if you're wondering if it'll fit in a Mustang, Beltramo told us it's actually shorter in height and narrower than a Coyote V-8, but quite a bit longer thanks to much increased bore centers. It's possible then, but good luck doing so without having to cut into the firewall. And even if you could wedge this motor into a Mustang, it wouldn't be very good, because of its heavy cast iron block and low-revving nature. Stick with the Coyote, kids.

This. Ford truck engines have always been torque monsters. That’s what you get when you have a longer stroke than chebbie. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Ok, as somebody who's driven a truck for some 30 years now, I have no earthly idea why this engine exists. Those people who want a truck but don't need one, or commercial companies that need light duty or supervisory trucks, the F-150 with an eco-boost is the go to option. The 5.0 Liter Coyote has been all but sworn off in the truck. Now if you need a heavy duty truck to work, haul, or tow with, the F-250/F-350 is the go to option with the 6.7 Liter Powerstroke diesel. I know a whole bunch of folks with F-250's and not one of them sports a gas engine. Again, I have no idea why this new large displacement gas engine exists given it likely has less longevity, lower fuel economy, and lower capabilities than the Powerstroke. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Meh. The torque peak is too far up the rpm ladder.

Box trucks (uhauls), 13 passenger vans, and motor home chassis. Much cheaper price point for these on a F250 + chassis.

Wait, what?!?! 400 lb ft of torque at 1500 RPM isn't good enough for you? What kind of application would it not be adequate for? Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

At least it does not require def, or does it? Knowing Ford and their HD trucks (F250/350) it will probably be a good motor. "Practice like you want to play in the game"
