I did that for years. Not once in those years did anyone ask for my ID. Not once did anyone even look at the back. Now the cashiers don't even touch the card, they just have you swipe it or insert it in the card reader. God's mercy: NOT getting what we deserve! God's grace: Getting what we DON'T deserve! A few years back, I put "See ID" in the signature strip of the card. I'm overseas a lot and I had people tell me that someone else signed my card. They couldn't understand who Seeid was.

They require business to be licensed, and make it part of the license rules to enforce this type of regulation on their customers. If the business refuses, or is found not to be in compliance, they can fine the company, or pull the license and shut them down. What do you think a company is going to do in that situation. This is playing out in the ongoing Covid theater. Earlier in the "crisis" I went to get into a supermarket. They had just started running a "social distancing" line to get in the store. I took exception to this and the way they were running it, and got into it a bit with the manager. His comeback was that if they didn't enforce the social distancing rules, the Dept of Health was threatening to shut them down.

That's it, in a nutshell. As a citizen, we're not required to carry papers, or a card, or be tattoo'd, or have an implant in our wrist or forehead, proving who we are. Hopefully there will be an uprising, should that ever be mandated, by those not stupid enough to go along. In the meanwhile, private transactions are still at the agreement of both parties. You don't have to show ID to a business, and the business doens't need to serve you. Government interactions are a mixed bag. When I tested for the Border Patrol eons ago, one of the panel questions was how to force the ID of someone claiming to be a citizen, who had no identification. Bottom line, it's not required. However, for certain operations, such as applying for a government ID, additional identification is needed, and rightfully so. What to do if someone won't carry ID? Nothing. It's their right. Insisting on a right may also require accepting limitations that come with it. Refusal to carry or present ID may mean limited service, inability to purchase, apply, or gain admittance. One can insist on one's right as a pedestrian over a large truck. That right may result in one being flattened when the truck doesn't respect that right, but at least one will stand up for one's rights. Until hit by the truck. Then it's really hard to stand at all.

In Colorado, state law requires people to identify themselves to law enforcement when required. It doesn’t have to be a government issued ID, the identification can be verbal for example... the exception being when you’re operating a motor vehicle. The two caveats: you have to identify yourself correctly, and if you ARE carrying government issued ID when asked you have to present it. ...but it’s true, no law requires you to carry any form of ID.
