I've got a sneaky feeling that some people are going to die in Iran today.

They've been poking that stick for 40 years now and today I think they fucked up.

I think the Trump Administration is trying to convince the civilized world Iran is a bad actor and not to be trusted. I think the evidence regarding those two tanker attacks has so far not been convincing to the rest of the civilized world. As such: I think the U.S. is going to continue demonstrating restraint.

The loss of a single drone, even if it was in international airspace, is nothing to get all jacked up over.

Let 'em screw up and kill somebody, especially U.S. service members, then I think the gloves might come off.

Personally, I might be inclined to have patrols, loaded for bear and w/backup, running 'round the clock just >< outside their airspace just daring them to do something stupid.

Once again a Republican president has to mop up for a Demoncrat president.

I think it would be appropriate for the Iranian Surface to Air Missile site that shot the drone down to disappear without warning tonight, along with some surrounding support buildings / equipment / radars.

Given that they shot down one of our aircraft, I would think annihilating there AA missile batteries would be entirely appropriate.

You may be right. I think, though, that some type of measured response is appropriate and I think the rest of the world would agree. You can't be shooting down our aircraft in international airspace and not suffer the consequences.

Like I said, these yahoos have been dicking around for decades and they need a slap down.

As well, they've already killed hundreds of U.S. Service members so something needs done.

Nuke 'em over this? No. But knock them on their ass.

I hope that we at least hurt their feelings.

BS You knock them in their hole now with a measured response before it costs the lives of servicemen. Those people only understand one thing and screw what the rest of the world thinks.

No lives lost so far. Only property damage and maybe the price of oil will increase. If we did anything now the world would be against the US. Russia doesn't want to lose their arms deals with Tehran. Putin should be mediating.

Let one American life be lost, or the life of one of our allies, and things will change. Hopefully, only from 30,000 ft.

That drone costs about as much as a modern wide-body airliner.

While nobody was killed, the simple offensive act in international waters is a pretty big threshold to cross. The US intel hasn't revealed all its 'evidence' however the quality of some of the videos has certainly changed, revealing we have a lot more than has been told.

Its incidents like this where your black-side SOF units earn their keep.

President Trump on Thursday said Iran “made a very big mistake” by shooting down a U.S. drone over the Strait or Hormuz, and said the U.S. would not stand for it.

At the same time, he seemed to leave open the possibility that it was not an intentional act.

“They made a very big mistake,” Trump told reporters, alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“I find it hard to believe it was intentional, and it could have been someone who was loose and stupid,” he said.

The downing of the drone, via surface-to-air missile, is only the most recent Iranian provocation in the region, coming on the heels of a disputed attack on a pair of oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman last week -- which the U.S. has blamed on Iran.

Iran claimed the U.S. drone on Thursday was over Iranian airspace when it was shot down -- but American officials stated unequivocally the incident occurred in international airspace.

Trump was vague on what the U.S. response would be, telling reporters “you’ll find out” what the U.S. would do next. He also confirmed the drone was over international waters and unmanned.

“This country will not stand for it, that’s what I can tell you,” he said.

Trudeau said that Canada was “very concerned by the escalation from Iran” and pledged to work with international allies in resolving the crisis.
