Dances With Tornados |
This is cheesy and corny and silly but it made me laugh giggle snort and guffaw. All you cops need a laugh, thanks for all you do. The Sherman TX Police Departmen made this lip sync video, good on them for their efforts. Apparently they had to outdo the Ardmore OK PD lip sync. Apparently there are a lot of PD's doing lip sync challenges to each other. I can't find it on YouTube, so here is a link to the Sherman TX news. It's the one with Hot N Creamy Donut store. Scroll down just a smidgen to get to the video. If anyone can find a direct to video link please post it. LINK To Sherman TX PD Looks And BTW probably not a good idea to rob this place. Enjoy!

That's really good, and funny. BTW, I don't think they were doing lip sync. I think that was their voices. Well done! .

His Royal Hiney |
They didn't disappoint on the set up (the song was what I expected soon as I saw the inside of the donut shop) and the delivery. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

^^^ Maybe so, maybe no. I could see both sides of the argument, I suppose. I'm sure some will complain that there's a financial cost in there -- using the resources for non-business use and all. But given all the crap that officers put up with, I think it's cool they get to have a little fun for/with the public, too. Grandfather said, "No fool, no fun. If it wasn't for us, there wouldn't be none." Even people who have to be way serious on the job deserve to have a little fun with it, in my opinion. My local agencies. I think this is good PR for these guys with the local community, and it builds camaraderie inside and among the agencies. We tend to like our cops and sheriff's offices here in Central Florida, so I think most of us see this as the good guys having a little bit of fun. I particularly like how Lake County highlights all of the various services they perform. Lake County Florida... Clermont Florida... "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." . I disagree. Anything that can help Police officers change their public perception and humanize them is a good thing. These videos do not change how officers do their job; if anything it may help them to interact with folks in neighborhoods that would not normally talk with them. ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

I think it is silly, and you would never catch me participating in it. However, it is just dumb to call it "foolish and unprofessional". It is PR 101, plain and simple. I do not necessarily agree that it "changes" anything about public perception, because those in the neighborhoods are solidly in one camp or another. The "Fuck the Po-leece" types aren't going to see this, and then all of a sudden say "Shit, you know, after watching them sing Bohemian Rhapsody, I think I'm going to stop blaming the cops for locking up Cousin Doyle because he gets drunk every weekend and beats up Linda and they come take him to jail". I think the positive PR is good, and the more positive PR you can generate it helps you with the community. I just don't think it "changes" anything about perception. To me, its about like a citizens police academy. Those who are in the "Fuck the po-leece" camp aren't going to sign up. I know of an agency right now that is led by shitbags, and they are all over stuff like this, playing midnight pick up basketball in the hood, and whatnot. The community knows that they are still a joke, and treats them that way. Another local agency could very well do this, but is still respected as the ones that take care of business and aren't to be trifled with.

Do No Harm, Do Know Harm |
Any cop that’s got the time, inclination, and actually carries through on making one of these videos is probably not the kind of cop I want to work with. I refuse to watch any of these. That’s all I’ve got to say about that. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

A few dispatch centers in our area have done them and have been bugging the PDs to do it. I nix it every chance I get. PR is PR but we don't have time nor the inclination to do stuff like this. Not minority enough!

Now in Florida |
Killjoy. You probably drive right past the donut shop and go for the kale and quinoa food truck for lunch too. Cops aren't allowed to have fun and build morale and show a lighthearted face to the public? I guess those cops can only aspire to your level of seriousness of purpose and dedication to the law. And we should probably work on some discharge papers for these clowns who attempted to have fun in the midst of a warzone;

Chongo gets it. I worked with a patrol team that wanted to do something like that years ago, I said "foolish and unprofessional" and walked out of roll call. I got written up for causing discord among the troops... Several years later I got roped into attending a school during lunch with my new partner, the kids were posing for a picture. the chief told me and my partner to go get in the picture, as soon as the photo was taken the radio starts and all the kids start dancing, me and partner walk out of the scene and get harangued by e chief and his minions...I told him "unprofessional" and went back to the hood where real crime was being committed. I didn't become a cop to be entertainment or make friends or influence people. I get some of you are saying that this gives a "real" face to the officers, but they are supposed to be out there enforcing the law, not entertaining whomever. And frankly it seems a waste of taxpayers money. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Wow, what a nice elitist attitude to have. Do you think the same of the cop that gets out and tosses a football with some kids? Shoots a few hoops at the basketball court? Stops and does a little jump rope with girls at the playground? Here's mine. It took me 5 minutes, in my office using my cellphone. Don't like it? I could give a rats ass. Don't want to work with me? Double rats ass. https://youtu.be/_HHGJul_QOY Steve "The Marines I have seen around the world have, the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. I couldn't have done 26+ years without a little fun everyday, even if it's laughing at yourself being silly. I'm thinking there's some officers here who would have made great morticians. If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

Ignored facts still exist |
Maybe things have changed since the 70's and 80's, but in the city I grew up in, there were 2 types of cops: Those that the criminals seriously feared, and those who got sent to the grade schools and farmers markets to give out stickers to the kids and remind them that they need to wear their bike helmets. Sometimes they were the same cop, but not often. Although I've only watched about 10 seconds of this stuff, I think these guys in these videos are closer to the cops who visit the grade schools. .
