What exactly do you mean? What on a PC is going to be "virtualized"?

If I was going to guess, I'd say it will come back full circle to the equivalent of dumb terminals connected to the equivalent of a main frame computer in the cloud.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

what graphics card did you get?

i remember using 8" floppies when I worked at GE back in high school.

My first computer had an audio cassette as the storage device. lol

I'm thinking of building new computers for me and my son. My RTX3060 is getting old.

I received notice that support for my Quicken software would no longer be supported on Windows 10. They did not offer any extension options.
And I received a notice saying you must have Win11 to run TurboTax for tax year 2025. Frown

For corporate settings that is ALREADY the case for many companies. Non-persistent desktop VDI's that is. Not sure the average Joe Schmo at home is going to find an economical solution for a persistent desktop in the cloud anytime soon.

I went thru a similar process a year ago. Had an i7 based computer I put together in 2015 that was getting a bit "dated". However by limiting it to the software for photo editing and CAD purchased in 2015 it was still running well. However the move to mirrorless, more mp, and AI editing features pushed me into building a new system with a 24 core i9 CPU, 128 gb of RAM, and Nvidia RTX 3060, 2 tb M2 primary and 2.5 inch 4 tb SATA Archive SSD along with a CD/Bluray Drive and a memory card reader. I will also note that I have a Virtual Machine available on the primary running Windows 10 and Windows XP so I can use my legacy software. While it did take about a month to get everything up and running the system works very well. It also should be good for another 10 years and at 70 I don't expect to ever need another computer.

I've stopped counting.

I seem to recall a plover was involved. I’d never heard of a plover before.

I had to buy another pc for the same reason. Went with a laptop from a relative. I only use it for such tasks. My old win8.0 pc seems to work fine. Can't upgrade due to built in graphics card.

I told them I didn’t need anything crazy as I no longer use a PC for gaming. They put in a MSI Shadow 2X GeForce RTX 5060 with 8GB GDDR7. Link
