Vermont Native American chief says Ben & Jerry's headquarters on 'stolen' land

An indigenous Native American chief in Vermont said he would be open to talking with ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's about taking back the land under its headquarters.

Don Stevens — chief of the Nulhegan Band of The Coosuk Abenaki Nation — told the New York Post that he "looks forward to any kind of correspondence with the brand to see how they can better benefit indigenous people," noting that the company's South Burlington, Vermont, headquarters is on Western Abenaki land.

"If you look at the [Abenaki] traditional way of being, we are place-based people," Stevens told the Post. "Before recognized tribes in the state, we were the ones who were in this place."

The remarks came days after the ice cream maker said in a July 4 tweet that America should return "stolen indigenous land."

"This 4th of July, it's high time we recognize that the U.S. exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it," the ice cream maker tweeted.

I'd like to see the Abenaki suit up in their traditional garb and occupy Ben & Jerry's headquarters. Big Grin

BUSINESS Ben & Jerry’s Parent Company Loses An Estimated $2.5 Billion After July 4 Tweet About ‘Stolen Indigenous Land’

Unilever, the parent company of Ben & Jerry’s, lost billions in market cap after the ice cream brand celebrated July 4th with an unpatriotic tweet about American history.

Unilever’s share price went from $52.32 per share to $51.37 per share, erasing an estimated $2.5 billion in market cap as social media users called for a boycott, according to Google finance data. The packaged goods conglomerate saw its market cap drop from roughly $133 billion to $131 billion because its share price decreased.

Ben & Jerry’s marked July 4th by tweeting that “the US exists on stolen Indigenous land.” It also included a link to a petition on the company’s website about returning Mount Rushmore to the Lakota tribe. The South Burlington, Vermont-based company has not returned its land to any of the Native American tribes recognized by the state.

Ben & Jerry’s left-wing activism has made headlines before, especially when the brand announced in July 2021 that it would stop selling ice cream in certain parts of Israel. Nonetheless, the firm has declined to boycott red states over voting and abortion laws, despite the company’s progressive advocacy.

In April 2021, Ben & Jerry’s advocated for defunding the police, a policy supported by Black Lives Matter and other activist groups. The company began calling for police to be defunded in June 2020, at the height of the Black Lives Matter riots that summer.

The brand partnered with activist and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick in 2020 to support his social justice organization. Ben & Jerry’s also created a social justice-themed ice cream flavor in September 2021 to promote legislation brought by Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush. The congresswoman has repeatedly called for defunding the police, even though she enjoys private security protection.

Ben & Jerry’s is currently facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly using migrant child labor to process the milk used in its ice cream. The company claims to support “values led sourcing” and “the rights and dignity of refugees and asylum seekers,” its website states.

Other companies, such as Bud Light and Target, have been subject to consumer boycotts for using their brands to promote LGBT causes and transgender ideology. The Bud Light boycott has been ongoing since April, and Target was forced to remove LGBT merchandise in late May because of the backlash.

Unilever was already taking a beating.

Now the Mulvaney Effect swoops in like an murderous miasma or a putrid phlogiston.

I hope the Unilever board is shitting angry kittens.

B&J's have always been hypocritical, virtue-signalling commie wannabes. The difference is that now, they have managed to get a lot of attention with one of their bullshit statements, and at the worst possible time- when American consumers are waking up to the power they have to punish companies that show their ass.

They won't apologize and they won't change but that doesn't mean we can't hurt them.

I can honestly say in my 62 1/2 years on this earth, their product(s) has NEVER been purchased, tested, tasted, or otherwise consumed by me. Guess the boycott finally caught up with me... Razz

May they suffer the misery and fate of Bud Light and Transheuser Busch...

Karma is a bitch. I hope the chief presses forward with his claim. B&J's deserves everything they get if this blows up in their face. I'd love to see the Abenaki tear down the HQ and build whatever historical housing is appropriate for that tribe.

Fuck them so hard.

I'm not even sure "irony" is the fact that it's even easier to by different ice cream than shit bear.

They've always gone hard environmentally.

May they reap what they have sown.

Maybe they can meet in the middle by making a new ice cream flavor; something like “Chocolate Colonizer Surprise”. I know- they could maybe do a company logo blanket giveaway…

Going back a little further, that tribe also took the land from another earlier tribe, and on and on.
I think this calls for a title search.
