The "science" of heliocentrism was wrong. Casual observation, however, makes it seem like a logical explanation for what people saw. But once someone noticed that the planets moved in retrograde at times, its days were numbered. And it persisted so long because it was thought to be demanded by the Bible.

Again, the beauty of the scientific method is that it can recognize new evidence and change. That doesn't mean an unchanging biblical cosmology is right. It just means that believers have to shoehorn new facts into the old explanation. That is doing it backwards.

Thanks for that. I read the original when it was published and have remembered the "wronger" statement ever since.

Funny how something that started out as an employment law question quickly went off the tracks and turned into this.
Maybe it should have asked, how to fire an employee that won't follow company policy.

Makes sense.

I might ask, is the forum the right place to ask for advice on what could be quite sticky legal matters, the mishandling of which could be quite expensive?

What makes you think the employee wouldn't follow company policy?
It was only indicated by the OP that he didn't like the viewpoint.
It may be that he wouldn't but that is not clearly stated.
Then at that time your question might be valid.

My point was that something that was started as a legal employment question quickly turned into a sometimes heated theological discussion about the age of the earth and other unrelated issues.

"What makes you think the employee wouldn't follow company policy?"

You may want to go back and re-read the thread as it was answered earlier.

From the OP, "I formally signed off today on not renewing this dumbasses contract, he isn't tenured so I can do that but are there any other legal loopholes I need to watch out for?"

And does he not want the teacher because the teacher violated the contract? Or because the teacher violated the fellow's personal preferences? If the latter, things could get interesting.

I have read but stayed out of this topic until now. My opinion is that the OP may have left himself and the school administration open to a lawsuit given that he called the teacher "mentally ill" and "dumbass".
I expect that if the OP has expressed those statements here, he has likely done so elsewhere publicly. I wonder how much of this is a personal problem rather than professional, even though he may be totally within his duties to not renew the teacher's contract.

This actually became an interesting thread, but I think the OP ran away when it left the rails.

When you are in a contract for pay as in being hired to teach, you render unto Caesar which is Caesar's. If you disagree, you leave the contract.

You preach on your own time outside Caesar's halls. It's just that simple.
