Fiancee recently bought a Highlander. 3rd row would work for tiny people (I'm 5'9" and can't sit in the 3rd row without my head touching the ceiling). It's not exactly snappy, but is a nice riding and comfortable vehicle that we expect will get many years of service from.

ETA: I think at 30K, you should be able to find a nicely equipped Highlander a year or 2 old with low miles...

Telluride MSRP starts at $31K has AWD, 3 rows and you can get adults in the 3rd row, it's a nice vehicle.

And it’s also a new vehicle and reliability hasn’t been established yet. It’s also guaranteed to lose its value MUCH faster than a Toyota.

Buddy of mine bought a used 2018 Dodge Durango for his wife and she seems to enjoy it. Of course ANYTHING was better than the POS Nissan Pathfinder she was driving.

ETA: I have to correct myself. They had a Nissan XTerra that was a POS.

We're looking at maybe a later (2016+) Tahoe or Expedition, but finding one without 150K on it is proving a bit of a challenge. I've also looked at 4Runners and the newer Acadias but I know next to nothing about them. Are they available with a third row?

You didn’t say anything about AWD or 4WD..
We have bought several cars from Enterprise Rental Car sales. They are relatively low miles and have the remainder of the factory warranty.

Here are some options for your consideration. They can have it shipped to your location so don’t worry about that...

JD POWER is a marketing company. Do some research on them.

Kia/Hyundai never have problems:

Better park your Sedona or Sorento outside so you don’t burn your house down:

You might look at a certified pre owned Lexus GX. The older ones don't have all of the tech that was added in the last two years, but it's a very solid SUV, albeit smaller than some that have been mentioned here. Just another option not yet suggested.

Every brand has a shitload of recalls one can dig up, especially from years past. I am skeptical of Kia like anyone else - but you will be hard pressed to find a bad review of the Telluride model thus far. And it's built in Georgia. They are also selling like crazy at the moment - so if you don't like it you won't have any problems unloading it.

Car and driver always talks up new models. They accept advertising dollars from automakers including Kia. I don’t buy first year models from anyone.

One of the main reasons I cancelled my subscription with them about 20 years ago.

We’re looking for something similar but my wife has been looking at a 2017 Volvo XC90 (entry level model is right about $30k). With the reported reliability issues and relatively high cost of repairs, I think I’ve convinced her to look at some of the other suggestions in this thread.

I second this. My sister and brother-in-law just bought one.

We have a Kia Sorento and are very happy with it. 5 year 60K bumper-to-bumper warranty. 10 year 100K powertrain warranty for the original owner.

The Sorento has 3rd row seats but they are nearly as nice as the Telluride.

We got our Kia Sorento from Enterprise.

You don't get a great deal. But you can get a fair deal and pay less than you would pay on a new car for a car in almost new condition.
