I'm going to replace the wife's 2008 Escape with something a little larger, preferably with third row seating (for the grandkids, not adults) and few more bells and whistles such as Nav, Sat. radio and the like. It would be nice if it had some reasonable towing capacity as I may want to tow a trailer with a lawn tractor occasionally.

We're looking at maybe a later (2016+) Tahoe or Expedition, but finding one without 150K on it is proving a bit of a challenge. I've also looked at 4Runners and the newer Acadias but I know next to nothing about them. Are they available with a third row?

The 2020 Explorer is a very nice vehicle, but may be smaller than your needs.

I am on my 5th new Expedition in a row (2000, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2018). And, the new body style is acres nicer than the previous version. It's faster, quiet, handles really nice with the aluminum body, is really nice inside and etc. etc.I just did a 250 mile trip to Tampa, and averaged 22 MPG at 80 MPH on cruise control, both directions.

I did get a 2016 as a rental once with the ecoboost and it was nice, faster than my 2008 at the time, but nothing like the new body style in regards to acceleration, handling, comfort and quiet.

Check out www.offleaseonly.com they usually have a lot of them at good prices.

Have you considered a Durango?

I have but there seems to be a marked lack of the 5.7 Hemi versions around, and again, I'm not sure on the third row availability.

My 2016 4-Runner has 3rd row seating, sized only for grandchildren. Only has a V-6 and rides more like an older truck. I think the Highlander has a better ride and 3rd row seating. The wife may like it more.

Take a look at the Highlander.

Stay away from a Durango unless you enjoy headaches.

Tahoes and Expeditions are a plenty under 150k miles (I just spent a over a month shopping them).
We have a Suburban and Expedition EL (we needed the cargo room too). The Expedition rides much better than Suburban and the Suburban has the fancy magnetic ride.
The cylinder deactivation on the GMs is awful!! I bought a module to delete it and it drives like a dream now.
The Expeditions are a tad bit cheaper than the GMs. The 16/17 Expedition I prefer to the 18+.
Between the 2 I would go with the Expedition.

We got rid of a Highlander for the Suburban as we needed more room. The in-laws had a Tahoe and stepped up to a Suburban. They also have a Highlander and just wish they would have gotten a 2nd Suburban.

It is a pain to get kids in the 3rd row of the Highlander.

^^^^. Heck no. The problems Ford has been having launching new models he doesn’t want to wait for that.

Maybe a lightly used Honda Pilot? Good rigs.

I know you're not looking for new, but leftover new 2019 3-row VW Atlas's (276HP V6 with 5000 lbs towing) are being offered by dealers for up to $9K off MSRP, putting them in the $32-34K range. And they have 6 year bumper to bumper warranty.

I'd stay away from any Chevy product with the 4L60E transmission (absolute trash).
However, their 4L80E which is in most 3/4 ton products is bulletproof.

2015+ Tahoe/Yukon and Suburban/Yukon XL with the 8 speed transmission are well known to have problems with shift stutter, slamming, banging, etc. GM claims fluid flush procedure fixes it. Not so far for us.

We have been quite happy with our 2014 Acura MDX. Lots of bells and whistles and 3rd row seating. Rated at 5K lbs of towing.

You owe it to yourself to test drive an Armada as well. Have had a 2018 bought used since December of 2018. No issues and I love it. Biggest fault is gas mile ar 14 city 19 highway. I know someone will chime in with the Nissan hate but our family has had nothing but good experience.
It's the most comfortable vehicle I've driven.
