I assume many, or most, Forum members recognize the name and know what why she’s famous. If you do, please do not post the answer, yet. Maybe it’s a generational thing; let’s see.

Question:
Do your recognize the name, Maya Lin and do you know what she did?

Choices:
Yes, to both questions
No, to both questions
The name is familiar, but I cannot remember why

I'm in my 30s, I answered no to both.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

She was very young.
What she did has helped unite us, for more years than she had at the time.

Just looked her up. Makes sense I wouldn't know her name, I was a little kid. I was aware of the "item" she is associated with, visited it in High School and was very moved by the experience.

This, I needed to look up, once I did I realized I did know who she was. Late 30's.

I'm 81 and the name did not trigger a response. I didn't look it up, but the responses here have caused me to believe I now know who she was and what she did. And yes, it was very controversial at the time, but over the years the concept has worn very well. I've been there a couple of times and it's very moving.
