No and Yes.

Didn't recognize the name, but remember the controversy. Almost 60.

Now that comments have gone to the second page, it’s probably ok to talk about Maya Lin. She was just 21 years old and still an undergrad when her design was selected to honor America’s Vietnam Veterans. She has said in the time since her design was picked, that if it hadn’t been a blind design competition, her design wouldn’t have been selected.

The controversy is all behind us now and I don’t think most vets could imagine a better memorial. I asked the question because the National Mall has striking memorials all over it. The only memorial that I know the designer of is the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial.

I'm 65 and knew the answer to both questions without having to look it up.

I'm not surprised that younger people don't know the name or her contribution, but I'm a little surprised at some of the older folks who didn't seem to care

I was coming down from Langley on the day they dedicated the wall. I remember her now but the wall was too strong a memory for me then. I appreciate her design and will visit it some day with my grandson. Lost some close friends there and later due to suicide.

One end of the Wall points to the Lincoln Memorial and the other end to the Washington Monument. I've been there several times and weep (even though I don't think I know anyone listed thereupon).
