My pick is Whirlpool, which includes Kitchen Aid and Maytag. Avoid Samsung and LG. Overpriced junk.

5 year old LG dishwasher is a complete piece of junk.

5 year old LG oven bought at same time is a complete piece of junk with two burned out burners already and uneven heating.

5 year old LG refrigerator bought at same time has broken twice already. Losing hundreds of dollars worth of food and needing $100s in repairs.

I will never by another LG again. Garbage!!

Samsung total piece of crap, had to replace the compressor the first two weeks we had it, then the motherboard a month later. Can’t count the number of times the ice maker broke. Service sucks, always try to jerk you around. I would buy some coolers and dry ice before I bought a Samsung again.

Maytag fridge for the past 10 years. The door icemaker / dispenser needed two service calls within the first year, but has since worked fine. Water filters are expensive and need replacement about every 6 months. All that being said, i would buy the maytag again.

Guess we lucked out. A new side by side Whirlpool was delivered this morning. Previous one was a GE Profile that we have had for 12 years. Would not have guessed that people have such low opinions of Samsung and LG as their TV's seem to work well.

I hated my Samsung french door with in door ice maker. Dumped it and I am very happy with the Bosch french door that replaced it. Ice maker in freezer, not on door

We like Whirlpool.

There’s a reason our nickname for another particular brand is “Frigidon’t.”

A customer rep at a major online appliance sales place (A.J. Madison) told me that Samsung and LG have mastered electronics quite well, appliances not so much.

When in doubt, mumble

Say no to Samsung, had a French door model. Ice maker stunk, had ice form underneath veggie tray. Rusted out behind center panel. Surprised the thing didn't catch fire. Rust marks . I finally fixed the rust and ice problem by running a wire around the heating cable and down the drain. Kept it from freezing and backing up. Kept it 4 years and got a French door LG. One year now.Ice maker barely keeps up if you have guests etc over.

Whirlpool. Ice maker replacement is basically plug and play on Whirlpool and the ice maker is cheap and readily available, as are other parts.

Everything is chinese mass-made dog shit. As you can see, it's a crap shoot.

Some of the devices last forever, some are broken when they hit the dock.

You can pay out the nose and still get a POS.

The other thing is to assess not only the make/model of the fridge, but also think about the longevity of where you get your fridge/extended warranty from. Will they be around to follow through?

Example: With Sears cratering/on the verge of cratering/hovering on the verge of cratering - take your pick - personally I would not buy major appliances or extended warranties from Sears. Day to day stuff - fine. But am I going to bet they'll be around in 3-5 years to honor the warranty on a major appliance? No.

As stated repeatedly, avoid Samsung. I have one for about five years now. It costs about as much as a used Honda Civic and both of the ice makers have given us trouble. We often have to reboot it (unplug and plug it back in). We got a service agreement with it (from Lowe's-also a mistake) which means you spend an hour on the phone to set up an appointment three weeks away so the guy from a city two hours away can come and not fix it three times.

Please, please, please. It's too late for me, save yourself.

That's not what I've been reading and hearing. Sears Appliance is actually doing OK compared to the rest of Sears and what's going to happen someday is Sears the store will cease to exist but Sears Appliance will be bought and live on.

My Kenmore fridge has been absolutely great over the past 5 years or so now. I think it was built by Electrolux?

Its really a crap shoot no matter what brand you buy. My mom just had a service call for her 2 month old stove for a defective heating element. It was either a Maytag or Whirlpool.

I can tell you this much is LG does not stock parts. Went to a local appliance repair store and they said no one stocks LG parts its all special order. Even the LG repairman does not have the parts handy. They said GE, Maytag, Whirlpool usually have compatible parts.

Add Amana. I'm happy with my Amana which is also a part of Whirlpool which now makes all of these brands.

Mother Trucker.

We bought a LG with a linear compressor in 2013, seven years ago.

I pull the refrig out from the wall every year and clean what I can from the rear of the unit.

I have heard the stories about the troubles and just figured we got a "good one".

WRONG!!!!

We purchased an extended 4 year warranty, but ours is now 7 years old, apparently old by today's standards. Shit, we were cleaning out my parents home over the weekend and in their lower level, is a 30 year old GE that is still going strong, even though it has probably not had its coils cleaned off in at least a decade or two. Yes, I understand it may not be very efficient by today's standards, but it is still running.

So, back to LG. Ours shit the bed Friday evening. Saturday morning we called the LG help line. The lady on the other end of the line indicated she could send someone to check it out on Wednesday. She required a $155 service fee up front. She then said the compressor, which often fails, is under a 10 year mfg. warranty. Hell yes, things are looking up. LG will cover the cost of the compressor, but we will have to pay the installation cost of approx $260.

The Tech arrived today and diagnosed the issue as a bad compressor. he replaced the compressor and left our home in less than 2 hours.

If we can get another 7 years out of it, I guess I will be happy.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot LG. Mad
