I bought a GE fridge and dishwasher in 1980. Still going strong.

I have been pleased with my Kitchen Aid fridge/freezer. I did have to replace the ice maker, but have owned it for 14-15 years.

So what is the model and problem with the current one??
The newer ones have a lot of electronics that can have problems.

We have an LG purchased in 2014 with their "linear compressor". It will have its second compressor replacement this coming Friday.

Repairman said that he is doing between 10 and 40 of these a week.

We have also had an evaporator and icemaker replaced. I'd avoid LG at all costs.

Step-sister had an LG that died but was covered under warranty. The replacement died a few months later. She threw the warranty in the trash and went with another brand. Not sure which but she will never buy another LG.

It's a Kenmore Elite 795.72053.112. We had a repair guy come out this morning and he said it wasn't worth fixing. He didn't even charge us for the service visit!

Not wanting to jinx myself but the S/S Kenmore is over thirty years old, never missed a lick.
I shiver at the thought of a replacement as it is almond color and is a placard for family photos

Our Frigidaire side by side counter depth ref has been pretty good for about 12 years. My only complaint is the refrigerator side doesn't get cold enough for my liking. We have it set to the coldest setting (32 degrees) and it's no where close to the freezing mark. About 38 on a good day. My wife says I nuts, but when I grab a drink, I want it really cold. Food does not spoil so maybe I'm expecting too much.

It’s possible that is an LG made product. Kenmore has been getting some of their appliances from LG and that would explain why “it isn’t worth fixing”.

I guess I might be the only one with a trouble free Samsung. French door about 6 years old and still going. Now that I typed this I am kinda worried though.

I have all Samsung; Fridge, oven, dishwasher and microwave. They are nice, they have worked fairly well, but in the few small issues that have popped up, getting service on them is a royal pain the a--. Next time I will buy whatever brand my local repair place recommends and tells me is easy to service. And that means no Samsung.

Well...here it is, 31 cubic feet, nice.

My Aunt had my parents late 60's frig and it was still working in 2007 when I was there.

I have a 1983 Hotpoint and have replaced the thermostat at least two or three times.

I keep the coils clean and have it pulled out from the wall about two feet. I think the heat kills them over time.

The ice maker stopped working and I wasn't interested in fixing it.

It will go with me when I leave this place. I will buy a new one for the future owner.

LG is the one that stole Zenith Electronics and their patents on HDTV. The stock holders and employees lost big time. The employees retirement was in Zenith stock.

I confirmed that it is indeed an LG manufactured unit.

All the love for Sami-sung! We bought one 9 years ago, and its terrible. Like all the others, you can't get service. Our problem wasn't all that bad, if you can tolerate the ice door opening and slamming shut every few seconds all day and all night.

Finally found a crook who would come out and look at it. He charged us $325 to pull the offending board out. So the door stopped making its incessant noise. But we never saw him again nor did we get the replacement board. After spending my working life with computers, I hate them.

No, we'll never buy another Samsung anything, ever. For appliances that cost $2,000 +, they should make things that don't break and fail, or have a plan to fix them. If you buy from them, its your fault for hearing all our stories an then not paying attention.

Oldest son was having some financial trouble a while back, but needed an new fridge. Our family used to buy Fridadare. That was spelled wrong.. but His warranty was for a year and the compressor only lasted an extra week, the puked. It would cost as much to replace the compressor as to buy a new fridge. He bought new, but not that brand. And now swears at them every chance he gets.

Appliance makers need to learn a lesson here.

Dick...If they lasted too long, lots of people would be out of work.

Plus the few people owning all the Registered Magnums would still be holding them. Big Grin
