Help! Help! I'm being repressed! |
For the past several years I've wondered why the burger is built, or stacked, in the order it is. It seems to me that you shouldn't put the condiments on top of the cheese as that leads to slippage and messy shirts. So this is how I've been building my burgers: Top Bun Mayo Mustard Ketchup Patty Pickle Cheese Bottom Bun Am I a monster? Thoughts? Is there a better way?

Fighting the good fight |
I usually do: Top Bun Small Amount of Mayo Pickle Lettuce Tomato Cheese Meat Small Amount of Mayo Bottom Bun If you'll put a thin spread of mayo on both buns, the oil in the mayo prevents the buns from getting soggy from the meat juices, pickle/lettuce water, tomato leakage, etc. Sogginess is further prevented by toasting the bun on the grill before applying the mayo and building the burger. Cheese on the bottom and separated from the meat is a double no-no. The cheese should be in direct contact with the meat, and on top of the meat (heat rises), to maximize meltiness. It's even better to put the cheese on top of the meat before the patty is taken off the grill, and give it a little time to melt on the grill.
Seems to me that's only really a concern for monsters like you, who are squirting triple the amount of condiments on top of the cheese on their burgers. Stick to one, or maybe two if you put them on different sides of the burger, and it's not a problem. Also, properly melting the cheese onto the top of the patty on the grill results in a textured cheese surface, rather than the slick surface of a slab of cold cheese, which further minimizes condiment-related slippage.

Mustard, mayo, and ketchup? Has Kraft bought your soul? That is too many sauces. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I'd like to place an order, please... "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Bottom bun 1 slice extra sharp cheddar cheese 0.5 lbs of 100% grass fed 80/20 ground angus beef 2T Roquefort dressing (homemade, with extra Roquefort cheese) (substitute mayo if you must) 1/4C Fried onions 4 slices of extra thick sliced hickory smoked bacon 1 thick slice of home grown beefsteak tomato Salt and pepper to taste 4 leaves red leaf lettuce Top bun I learned this order after realizing top buns collect liquids better than bottom buns.
