This is a design feature and not one that's marketed. It does take a bit longer however it gives you quiet time away from the wife. You're doing "manly" things and could take a nap, all without interruption. Totally worth the extra drain time.

Put them on every vehicle I own.
No issues. Makes oil changes so much cleaner.

Does the part of the valve that threads into the oil pan extend above the floor of the pan? I was going to buy one of these several years ago but I was concerned that there will always be a layer of sludge on the bottom of the pan due to incomplete draining.

At first, I was like it doesn't take me long to take the plug out.

Then I'm remembering how messy my last two oil changes were with a car that requires 0w-20 oil. That oil comes out like water and splashes everywhere. One of these with a hose connecter could be a game changer.

I have been using them on our fleet since about 2003 in all our vehicles except the Porsche’s due to their design.
Never had an issue on road, off road, winter or summer. Highly recommend! In all we’ve probably had them on 10 vehicles.

The reason I use them is that it makes an oil change much easier in that I can control the rate of discharge. Also, in my F-350 it allows me the opportunity to drain the pan half way through the process to avoid any unnecessary spills.

I have a fumoto on my diesel and a valvomax on the Jeep.

Oil goes into a hose to an oil collection bag and right to recycle center. No drain pan even required.

Easy peasy

Fumoto says it doesn't but it does a wee bit, however it's not really an issue.

No matter what kind of draining you do - Fumoto, regular plug or suck it out - the engine is never fully emptied. There is always oil in the upper passages, accumulating around the head and so on to the point that you'll never get all the oil out.

Since you're draining you oil in schedule, you shouldn't have a problem with sludge. The oil is circulating all the time and your high equality filter is holding on to the crud. In a modern engine sludge isn't really that common, so long as you don't abuse the engine and neglect it.

I don't know the brand, whether Fumoto or not, but many (most?) of the airplanes that I see in the maintenance hangar are equipped with quick-drain valves. I have never heard of any problems with these.

Anything like this that is installed on an airplane (other than "experimental") has to be FAA certified; nothing in life is fail-proof, but these are pretty failure-resistant.

I use it on my Polaris Slingshot. No leaks over the past three years. Oil changes are easier and less mess. I can reach through and open the valve without crawling under the vehicle. The oil does not splash over my hands and the stream is easier to direct into the pan.
I would recommend them.

I have been using them on all 4 of my vehicles for years without any problem. My Tundra has one on the oil pan and another of the filter canister. Makes it so much easier. Definitely get the hose end connector so you can slip a piece of hose onto it and direct the drainage where it needs to go.

Do tell me more about using the valve on the canister. Not heard of anyone doing that. How do you get the main housing of the canister off with the Fumoto on there?

I have one installed on my M11 Cummins Diesel that's in my Motorhome.
The cost of replacing or repairing a stripped drain plug makes the Fumoto valve a bargain.

I use them on every vehicle I own. Never an issue. Makes oil changes easy and clean. They are a little slower but what’s an extra 3 minutes every 6 months?

I had at one time considered this during the days when I changed the oil myself in all our vehicles ... but since I am now retired, financially stable and not wanting to bother I now take all our cars to our local mechanic to change the oil.

I use them on my Toyotas. The only complain I have is how long it takes to drain the oil.

They certainly cut down on the mess.

I have the Jowett billet filter cap with the fumoto valve and a big socket for removal. Makes the filter change so much easier.

I have them on both my vehicles. I can change the oil in our Outback very quickly with zero mess.
They work great.
