Bullshit. Abject bullshit.

Read Icabod's post. This ain't Victorian England, CO's don't have that sort of power. I would know, I was one.

Please explain why Icabod's post is bullshit? Commanders can very well certainly prohibit someone's re-enlistment if they are not meeting standards.

I barred a SSgt from re-enlistment because he was a toxic leader, bully, and malingerer. He was gone before my change of command.

Sometimes a post has more than one concept.

1. The story is BS.
2. Icabod's post is on point.

Confused

That's the way I read it - I thought he was saying that the story being told by the kid is complete BS and to read Icabod's post for an explanation of why it is BS.

That’s how I read it as well. Jim is full of manure. Icabod is spot on.

Sounds like a bar to re-enlistment for one that gets in trouble.

I got $5k in 1982. Adjusted for inflation that would be $13k so that's a pretty sweet deal.

I also believe all qualified E-4s and 5's get automatically sent to a promotion board now.

I got out of the army in 1966 and this was in effect way back then. In fact, not only were details regarding the candidate, but we were forced to appear in front of the board and answer questions from all board members.

What really pissed me off at the time, my MOS was frozen for promotions above E5. Had been for years, and was still frozen when I got out.

AIR from my interactions with personnel, if an individual was deemed unsuitable for re-enlistment, it was submitted on paper which was then put into his file.

I got out of the Army in 1995 and headed to chef school 2 weeks later. I was a good troop, never got in any trouble, worked my ass off and got lots of rewards and recognition. They tried really hard to get me to stay, even offered me a job cooking in the General's Mess at the Pentagon. But I was already accepted to the prestigious CIA and wanted to go bad, so no amount of persuasion would keep me in.

About a year into school, I decided to go back into the Army Reserve, but the recruiter calls me and says "why do you have a RE-3 code* on your DD214??? I explained everything above to him and he said I must have pissed someone off on the way out and this was their parting "fuck you" to me. Confused

*ARMY, RE-3 Individuals who are not qualified for continued Army service, but the disqualification is waiverable. Ineligible for enlistment unless a waiver is granted.

I did get back in though.
