This is precisely my point. Deaths on both sides. The blood shed in the Civil War IS reparations, and if that isn't enough, fuck you and your grievance whoring. EVERYONE alive today, has BENEFITED from what is America. Which is not to say that problems don't exist, and that bigotry and racism aren't real. BUT, sorry folks, no one owes you a thing. Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
I grew up in N. Idaho, living right on the boundary of the Nez Perce reservation. Alcohol abuse was common, even though back then it was against the law to sell alcohol to the Indians. :How did they do it? Couple of ways. 1. go into the grocery stores and buy the largest containers of pure bourbon vanilla. Which were then drunk for the high alcohol content. Others were to get some "sympathetic? white dude to buy it for them. My brother was a cop back then and he patrolled parts of the reservation as his normal duty. He told a lot of stories about the drunken Indians laying on sidewalks, in the weeds, etc, etc. I don't have any idea about what reparations the Nez Perce received, but any money they got went primarily for booze, of most any description. They did eventually find a way to get back, somewhat, at whitey. They opened a gambling casino just outside the city limits! And made a shit ton of money. Been a loooong time since I was there so I have no idea how it goes now, but back then the tribe was rolling in money. Don't know how it may have changed much, either. Sure, why not? Let's make all the surviving slave owners pay reparations to all the surviving slaves. Should add up to about 0. "Even if the world were perfect it wouldn't be." ... Yogi Berra

Hell yes, I want reparations owed to the Cajuns for what the British did in 1755. Very few Americans know the story, so here is a brief description from the "The Hope and Despair of Acadian Exiles, 1755-1766". The whole article is: http://www.newenglandhistorica...an-exiles-1755-1766/ "Le Grand Derangement ...On Sept. 5, 1755, the expulsion of the Acadians – known as Le Grand Derangement – began. The British announced they would seize the homes and property of the French Neutrals. Estimates vary, but as many as 10,000 Acadians out of a population of 12,000 were rounded up, boarded onto ships and sent to the 13 British colonies in North America and to France. Several thousand died of disease, starvation and drowning. The British lured Acadian men into churches under false pretenses and then locked them inside. They seized others in their homes and their fields. Their wives and children had to feed the men at gunpoint until hired ships could take them away. The British took over their farms and livestock, pillaging and burning their homes to make sure they wouldn’t return..." Another good read is from the Canadian Encyclopedia https://www.thecanadianencyclo...the-acadians-feature What is not clearly explained is that the British separated the men, starting at age 10, from their families and kept them on prison ships in New York harbor until approximately half died of starvation and disease. On second thought, forget the reparations because my Father's family came from England in 1634. It just doesn't seem right that one side of my family would sue the other. Let others seek reparation for slavery. However, My family owned slaves on a small plantation and I will have to speak with my great-great-great grandfather to work out the payment schedule. Hopefully, it will be quite a few more years before I can speak to him, but I will get back to you. . “Leave the Artillerymen alone, they are an obstinate lot. . .” – Napoleon Bonaparte http://poundsstudio.com/

On the other hand, how would you all feel about reparations in the form of a $25k check and a plane ticket back to Africa for any black person willing to step up to the counter. Of course they'd have to relinquish citizenship and be banned from ever returning to the US to get the check and ticket. The $25k would be a drop in the bucket compared to the welfare and other government assistance program costs these people would inflict on the American taxpayer. Anybody buy into this proposal??? ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. I'll pay when the British Monarchy pays. Remember who brought slavery to North America and the Caribbean.... Slavery was NOT the USA's original sin. It was Britain's. Had the US not been founded, there is no telling how long slavery would have remained a factor in the world. What the race baiters fail to see and the young are not taught is that in the founding documents are the seeds of liberty for the slaves. Since then the country worked toward liberation for all. Took some time, yes, but that is because the culture was established and it takes time to change a culture especially one of an economy. No. Slavery was not our sin. That was preexistent to our founding and aspects of our founding documents that addressed slaves as 3/5ths a human being were placed so that the slavers could not use the save population against them, prolonging slavery. So no. There is no reparation owed. There is gratitude owed from all citizens to the founders and the principles of liberty codified in our documents. Any racial trespasses were the result of an evolving culture to one of acceptance and equality. That takes time. The longer these scab pickers agitate, the longer acceptance and equality will take. It’s not just the deaths of the Civil War (700,000 or thereabouts). My great-grandfather got “swamp fever” in the siege of Petersburg; he was disabled for the rest of his life. When his wife died he had to give up his two children for adoption, one was my grandfather. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

I would bet that there are zero individuals in America who do not have 'slave' blood, if things were traced far enough. Till the invention of mechanical devices and the development of reasonable ethics, slavery was damn near everywhere. They giving reparations to descendants of slaves taken by the Greeks and Romans? by the Ottoman Empire? by the Barbary Pirates? The word 'slave' did NOT come from describing Africans in servitude. Another wager: I would bet that since the beginning of time, there have been more non-African slaves than African. But, hey, why let history and common sense interfere with Democrats pandering to their base and picking taxpayers's pockets to do so?

Send the bill to the NAACP. My wifes great grandfather also served for the north and was injured, of course we're not holding our breath that her family will get any free stuff. Intelligent people will see this as more Political clap-trap from the Dems.

As stated above, this is a desperate attempt to buy back the Black vote. The Dems are realizing that because of Donald Trump's messaging on how the Democrats are suppressing Blacks, and Dinesh D'Souza's "Plantation Politics" speech, they have lost the Black vote. These reparations are purely being done out of desperation.

Warren one-ups 2020 Dems, says Native Americans should be 'part of conversation' on reparations https://www.washingtontimes.co...ions-native-america/ Sen. Elizabeth Warren has one-upped the Democratic 2020 presidential competition by saying she would consider reparations not just for the descendants of slaves, but for Native Americans. The Massachusetts Democrat had already joined Sen. Kamala Harris, California Democrat, and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro in coming out in support of some form of reparations for black Americans without offering details. Asked Friday if Native Americans should be included in the discussion, the Massachusetts Democrat said, “I think it’s a part of the conversation. It’s an important part of the conversation.” Her comments came in comments to reporters after a speech at the New Hampshire Democratic Party fundraiser in Manchester, according to the Boston Globe. Financial reparations to atone for slavery has long been a talking point on the left that few if any top Democrats have supported, including former President Barack Obama and 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." Oh, that's rich. We've given Indians EVERYTHING needed to survive and prosper for well over 100 years, and that's not enough? IMO we shouldn't have given them a dime. It was a war. We won.
