I'd like to know more details about their plan. Does it include only African-Americans? What about those who are "half black" or not 100% black? Are they included? If not why not? And what about other non-blacks who were affected by slavery? Surely there are thousands if not millions of those people as well.

Are we talking about a cash payout? If so what amount are we talking about? What's the magic number that will make everyone whole and satisfied? One article said reparations would cost "trillions" of dollars. Assuming there are about 80 million African American's in the US, and assuming the "trillions" number is $2 Trillion, some quick math (you mathematical whiz kids check me) estimates that each African American would get approx. $25k.

My question then would be - is that the end of it? I mean as part of these "reparations" I would think the government would want a iron clad binding legal agreement that there would never, ever, ever be any other reparations to be paid for all perpetuity to their descendants until the end of time. Which we know would only last a coupe of generations because how can someone speak for future generations?

Or am I way off base? I guess the "reparations" they are talking about are programs, incentives, to make sure everyone not only has an equal chance but that everyone is guaranteed and equal outcome. Is that it?

I'm pretty sure the people seeking reparations would rather have the cash. Roll Eyes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ny_Johnson_(colonist)

Anthony Johnson was at least among the first slave holders in the US.

He was black. Lots of reports/articles to indicate that he was the first.

I get very tired of hearing about the BS that only white folks owned slaves, that all slaves were black, etc etc etc.

But then again, as most of us know, history in this day and age is freely modified, changed, denied to prove whichever point is in discussion. Or to prove some point.

Statute of limitations has expired. Harris Also obviously likes the trappings of he office. Yet Harris herself is far from following what she preaches. Since 2015, her campaign has spent around $300,000 on air travel. Harris’ FEC records also show that she spent less than $7,000 on trains, even though the Green New Deal proposes making trains the main means of transport “at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary.”
She is, however, an outlier compared to the three other Democrats when it comes to private jets, with no records or media reports indicating that she took a chartered flight.
Still, Harris’ lavish spending on airline tickets – with many of them first-class tickets – even became a campaign issue in 2015 during her Senate run, as the travel also included first-rate hotels around the country all while her staffers had to fly budget and stay in low-end rooms.

Why can’t the democrats ever do something good for the country as a whole? They need to cut out the racial divisive bullshit.

I hope they push this. There are six whites for every black in this country. Plus this does nothing for other ethnic minorities.

It might help them win the nomination, but it will be a big loser in the general. Trump would have a field day with this.

Can’t all the affirmative action and free money count as reparations?

Btw, I’ve never met a black person who wanted reparations...but then again, the black people I’m friends with are mostly medical professionals and upstanding members of society.

This is just Democrats buying votes trying to give people money for something they didn't do or weren't directly involved in.,. Sound familiar?

Liberia....and we know how that worked out.
The Relocated slaves, Americo-Liberians, lorded over the native African's, creating a system of inequality that resulted in a violent overthrow in the 1980's.

Senator Cory Booker’s “baby bonds” policy aims to help poorer children by giving them a government-funded savings account that could total up to $50,000 for the lowest income brackets. The plan has been praised by liberal scholars, who think it could go a long way in helping lower-income Americans begin to build wealth.

There are several indigenous bands in Alberta that get paid royalties for oil that is pumped on their land. The cheques are sent out to everyone over a certain age.
It is absolutely amazing how little of it is saved or used responsibly.
I don't think these idiots have thought through the ramifications of giving an 18 year old a big pile of money for doing nothing.

https://albertaviews.ca/goodbye-hobbema/

quote:
In the 1970s the Maskwacis bands received 40 per cent of oil revenues and 70 per cent of gas revenues from drilling on reserve, up from the 10 per cent of the previous two decades. The royalty money was held in trust and administered by Indian Affairs Canada. Until 1987 the bands requisitioned what they needed for business initiatives, local projects and monthly royalty cheques to band members.

Once poor, the bands were now flush. New houses were built on reserve. Band members bought new cars and trucks. “Money is a big equalizer,” says Maskwacis historian Bruce Cutknife. “In the 1980s, at the height of it, merchants in Wetaskiwin who had been openly intolerant had to change; our money was an income for them.”

The windfall also brought social turbulence. In a 1984 report commissioned by the Department of Indian Affairs, Joe Dion, former president of the Indian Association of Alberta, wrote that rates of suicide, alcoholism and drug abuse increased on the oil-rich reserves. The report—never released—was leaked to the press in 1986. “During this development period there has been very little or no training done by the oil companies or by the government with the Indian people, nor does it appear that the bands themselves were encouraging this training,” wrote Dion. In an interview after the leak, he said: “The department was remiss and irresponsible. There could have been a plan, a policy, to prepare for the use of this money.”

In a Canadian Business story, former Samson Cree chief Victor Buffalo said that in the mid-1980s the feds encouraged the bands to put youth members’ royalty cheques into trusts and give the money out as a lump sum when they turned 18. “Age 18?” said Buffalo. “I don’t care if you’re in China, Los Angeles or Toronto. You get that kind of money, you’re going to blow it every time.”

It is waaaaaay past the time to keep pulling this nonsense out to defend some slime ball!

Or how about the Native Americans? Anyone who has spent much time at all checking into that bit of American history can tell about that raw deal! I seem to recall something about the "trail of tears"! Among other incidents.
