I dont remember when I was new new, but I do remember when I was newer you put a moratorium on something political related, I don't remember what. But thinking I could lighten the mood I made some comment referencing Hillary Clinton, that got me a week of moderated status.

I've since learned how to read the room here. It was my own mistake (and I was also in my early 20s).

It's not hard being a member here, despite what some people from days gone by have said. There's a reason why the forum is as active as it is.

I was the FNG after my house was robbed, I didn’t know squat about handguns, and a LEO friend said to check out the P226. A quick search landed me here.
I learned a lot about many things, after that. Started shooting matches in 2014 as a result, don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
Said some stupid things, early on, pre-sobriety. Poked the Eagle once, learned my lesson.
Met other members in person, even had dinner with two of them in Michigan last year.
This forum is an indispensible part of my life, every day.

Hiya bean! Always good to see you're still around these ol gun forums. Smile

rburg encouraged several members of Para's S&W Forum to join Sig - he called it an invasion. I knew several members and don't recall any fng mistakes. I like the way Para runs his forum and I value my membership, so much good advice offered up freely and the freedom to discuss most any topic - no place like this place. Seldom does a day go by that I don't check in.

I have been here a few years and originally joined because my gun knowledge was weak and the forum sources were strong. Having reached 80 years old, I find I occasionally make posts that could have benefited from review by a younger and wiser person - unfortunately, I have aged out of that classification a long time ago. I have no complaints on my reception from the forum or its leadership. I have, so far avoided serious consequences from a few of my "far-out" posts by following two pieces of advise from my childhood days:

1. My wise old grandfather once commented that if I insisted on wandering the cow-pasture of life, I would end up stepping in a few cow-piles. Quote: "There ain't no dignified way to out of it - you just got to sit down and clean up the mess as best you can, watch where you step in the future, and get on with life".

2. When I was a little kid, my best friend had the grandest "marble ring" in the neighborhood and furnished the marbles to play with. One day I dared challenge him on the rules he had set for all the kids that played. He calmly replied, "Rebel (yeah, that was my nickname as a kid), you can either play by my rules at my marble ring, or you can go home!"

For some reason, both of those seem to appropriately when participating in this forum I truly enjoy! Thanks to the forum members and leadership for the tolerance for an old man and thanks especially for the knowledge that you guys share every day.

Another who migrated from the S&W Forum about the time when Para sold it. Felt right at home here too.
Have always lurked here alot and participate a little. Spend most time soaking up the knowledge from everyone and adding where I feel comfortable.

I had been on the board for a very short time, a couple of weeks. I found the forum off a search for info 0n IDPA got led into a thread and thought I'd found the fountain. Very shortly after that 'lucky me' experience there was a thread on The National Parks position on guns in the parks.
Both of my kids were national park rangers at the time so I followed. One of my first posts ever was a question in that thread about the pros and cons of the thing and a member posted that I was a grabber or a troll or something I responded that it was a simple search for info and he blasted me. I told him to blow me, figuring it would be my last post on this place.

I'm still here and still don't know how to act out in public but I've learned tons, laughed out loud a lot, been sad some of the time, but I appreciated the opportunity to be a tool as a newb.

Thanks Para for this forum,

Knowledge, experience, humor, lining up with my way of thinking all rolled into one.

The fireams bug hit me at about 14 years old, my grades would have been better if I’d a spent less time reading “Firearms Encyclopedia and Shooter’s Bible”, and my Dad being a FFL / Gunsmith didn’t help matters any as he’d let me help out a little and have me man the loading press cranking out rounds of 38spl with semi-wadcutters. We had a combat pistol range down in the ravine, a few of the LEO’s would drive out from town, great times.

FNG: day 5, Job’s 3 friends Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite showed up to advise me, and yesterday Bildad the Shuhite decided I needed a little more. I’m still waiting for Elihu to come along to give me his advice.

Water under the bridge, don’t know yet.

I have been here for around 20 years.

I was buying my first handgun and was looking for info.

I went to the range and rented a Sig and a Glock. Bought the Sig.

I found this place and hung around.

This place has an amazing wealth of knowledge.

I consider this Para's living room and act accordingly most of the time.

When I see the shit start, I just move on to the next thread.

I joined 12 years ago and don't remember the FNG experience so it probably was not traumatic and did not trigger me Cool.

I have long been a Sig fan so I joined for the guns but stayed for the knowledge on a (very) wide range of topics.

I very much enjoy that Sig Forum is a place where a modicum of decency is expected in all posts.

The wisdom and knowledge displayed by the members of this group is awesome. Just one example, a few weeks ago a member posted a question about the Toyota Tacoma. Since that is a possible next vehicle for me, I followed the post. The responses to the question illustrate my point, every response was well considered and offered a fact based perspective. Para, that is a reflection of the way you run this forum, thank you.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

Think I just acted like a NG. I learned early on to watch and listen to learn the ways was way better than acting like an FNG.

I know for a fact that I casually lurked in the background for at least a year or so before joining. Even after joining I read often but rarely commented publicly. There were many laughs and a little drama along the way but I have enjoyed this community immensely. Had opportunities to meet several members over the years and have trained with others. I guess my FNG experience was good enough to keep me around for over two decades.

Never had a bad interaction with Para or any of the moderators.

Pretty good, considering I have been here for almost 15 years.

I had a lot of questions about the P225 and the P229.

I definitely learned a few things. There was a thread that I had confused Nicole Simpson with Jessica Simpson and said something pretty bad. That was a quick learning lesson.

It’s a pretty great place. Quite happy with it here and the way it is run.

I will go as far as to say that I have made some friends, one being you, Mike. You had reached out to me right after I had left “The Company” this past summer. How you knew I was having a bad time, I don’t know. I didn’t call you at that time, but I sincerely appreciated the email and your intuition that something bad had happened in my life.
OttoSig (James) offering and teaching me some Korean lessons on Saturday, until my wife decided I was too busy.
Trading food recipes with many people, too many friends to list.

This is a really great place. If you don’t do well as a new member, well it’s probably on you.

I joined here just over 20 years ago looking for info on Sigs. My first recollection is when the Train Bros went off the rails. Very entertaining.

I lurked for a while. Got into a tussle within a week of posting. Took offense when I should have just blown it off.
Admin came in and stood up for me. Meantime, I learned to shut my mouth, sit back and watch for a while longer.
Being a chick, I post a bit more cautiously. Most folks think I’m a dude, which is fine.
