Conditions in this nation have become so bad, with everything somehow tied into the political frenzy of the left, I have withdrawn from hearing anything about it, this forum being the sole and- in my case- unavoidable exception.

There's so much to be said about what's going on right now and for the past few months and I'm not going to say any of it. I don't even want to ponder any of it.

This stuff, this acid, this poison is consuming this forum, and that's even with the lid I have tamped down on the most recent insanity. There's a better way right now.

I'm not telling any of you to do or to not do some thing or other. I'm simply stating that I could be very angry about all of this but I'm choosing to not do so, and the only way for me to do that is to avoid any talk of this stuff, as much as is possible. You might consider doing the same.

I'm just minding my own business, gents. Right now, it seems pointless to do otherwise.

The thing is... I do avoid any talk of this stuff in the 'real world' with my friends, neighbors and business associates. But I read a lot of different sources to keep up with what's going on in the world and the only place I am comfortable sharing my opinions about any of it is right here on SIGforum.
Many here in this little corner of the internet have and share an understanding of what is going on and help to keep each other sane when the rest of the world is self-destructing.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I think with social media and smart phones people just can't put politics down. I don't have social media so it helps a ton.

I don't understand how people have this much free time to spend on politics and how they have so many fucks to give on a daily basis. In some ways I'm in awe of their endless passion, in other ways I'm confused how they don't want to do more fun things with their time. How? Every damn day tuning into the news or opening up Facebook to read comments and then angrily fight back with people? Really?

When I joined this forum I was 28. I was much more prone to "fight" with people in the Lounge. Now I'm 42, I use the ignore list and I realize I'd rather read and learn here than argue on the internet. Sure we all engage from time to time, but I just can't fathom getting angry on my keyboard every day on Facebook or being mad at the news. Age and maturity certainly help, but still, even in college I didn't want to be angry and fighting all the time. These folks must be exhausted at the end of each day. Why allow so much negative crap into your brain each day?

Thanks Para

I've not turned on the television in a week, read very little news, etc... because I was getting very angry with it all. I have chosen to live out here in the woods with little to no news until hopefully this stuff calms down.

Avoiding the political stuff entirely works for me.

My parents are doing the same. They were getting pretty worked up about it.

Agree 100%. I have thought many times of quitting the small bit of social media I partake in (Facebook) but find it is one of the primary ways I keep up with friends from the past, particularly from my time in the military

That said, I am a surgeon excising any of the crap from my feed there. I tell my wife I know I’ve downed it right if I have no idea what’s happening in the world after looking at it.

I always got my news info here at Sigforum since I tend to avoid TV news, especially the last few months. And I don't do social media. But I'm afraid that what is out there now is worthless, fear-mongering bullshit, ramped up considerably in the last couple of weeks. It's to the point I even avoid going to Breitbart, American Thinker, or FoxNews online now. To me, it is the minority that is screaming, and the entire media turns it up to 11. Time to tune it out, because IMO, they ALL are little dogs yapping away.

The shit going on these days is like driving by a major auto accident, trying to avoid gawking. And I think it would not be a bad idea here.

May you live a thousand years, Para. Wink

I have ceased all political discussion as well both here and in every other aspect of my life. I don't watch any news and I've cleansed all social media to where I only see my immediate family and my hobbies (non-political firearms sites and motorcycles mainly).
If any of my family or friends bring up any current events or politics I ask them to refrain as politely as I can and say the only politics I'm involved with is when I cast my ballot in November.
I've been happier and more content with my simple little life than I've been since before 2008 and I'm positive my blood pressure has reached normal levels again.

I think you’re right, Para. It might well be a good idea to use SF as a refuge from—-rather than a resource for—-the constant avalanche of stuff that right now is only serving to upset, inflame, and frustrate everyone.
