I saw this last week and thought it was good. I think it's appropriate for the current thread:

Sometimes you have to dive and let the wave pass. Mrs. DF and I have chosen to dive. I still vote for principle. I still declare true principles. But I can see that the culture war is tilted in favor of emotionalism. Emotional deception and distortion is impossible to resist in bumper stickers And chants. The Left doesn’t have that problem. It takes 10 times longer to present the truth in context but it’s pointless to do it to an irrational opponent. With enough emotion ANYTHING seems rational and can be justified. And so the wave rolls.

Mrs DF and I are retiring to a very, very rural ranch off the grid. We will wait and watch from there. We will prepare to shelter our boys, their wives and children. It’s a shame we have to do it but a study of history and how far away from first principles we have drifted, serves to warn.

Sage advice, Para. I haven't watched/read the "news" in probably 12 years...maybe more (except what's discussed here, of course). Mother says, "You need to stay informed". Oh, believe me...I'm informed.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Thanks Para. I've been mostly tuned out for about a month. It's worn mighty thin for me.

Without that, there is little reason for me to spend time here. Personally, I miss it.

Agreed as well.

However, this Forum is one of the few places I do go to for "real" news and insightful interpretations of US and World News.

Thanks Para.

I watch Tucker Carlson a couple of times a week, but that's it. I still get the paper, but its been going straight into the recycling bin and I'll keep tossing it until they stop with the non-stop coronahysteria.

I don't do Facebook, Instagram, or other social media. I even "opted out" of a group text thing with my sisters because all they do it repeat the crap that they read on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media.

I'm so sick of politics and everything else that has happened this year too but it's nice to have like-minded people to vent to once in a while.

I am truly torn on this subject personally. The need to be aware is real, but the physical and mental toll reality takes on a person is also real. The erosion of the country I love is difficult to watch. I do not know the solution. I thought a solution might be to refuse to ignore it, and make whatever difference possible in my own small circles. Fight lies with truth, and bring support to others with eyes open and brains turned on. I've found this forum to be a place where truth and common sense prevail more than most places. Where a wide background of experience, education, and geography present mostly intelligent debate and distillation of truth. This forum is often an oasis where finding others helps to keep from giving up on our nation and our world.

I know the realities of the current time are not just difficult, they're shattering. I don't have answers or advice, nor would I propose to give them to anyone here on this subject. This feels like war because it is. I appreciate the ability to still read and post here. Over the decades it must have been no small feat to keep this place up and running as uniquely excellent as it is. These are truly difficult times, of which the outcome is uncertain. Prost to you fine gentlemen and gentlewomen in the challenges at present and to come.

The thing is... I do avoid any talk of this stuff in the 'real world' with my friends, neighbors and business associates. But I read a lot of different sources to keep up with what's going on in the world and the only place I am comfortable sharing my opinions about any of it is right here on SIGforum.

Same here, if you asked anyone that knows me what my political affiliation was, 80%+ wouldn't know it.

I love this little refuge where I can be honest and discuss things. If you have FB you'd know what a shit show that place is, replete with emotional arguments, virtue signalling, pandering, and wokeness. Here we can disagree and 98% of the time it remains civil, and a decent percent of the time people find a understanding of the other person's views or even are swayed by good arguments.

Wow. I don't know where to start, but lets try with the local political wing of the DNC. My 99+ year old mother believes the news. And she's anti trump because they wouldn't lie! Big Grin Every presentation of the President is negative. Gawd I hate them. You just can't depend on them to be truthful.

I don't think news should be banned, or even Politics. But then I already know how I'll vote this cycle. Or the one after that.

I had to turn off the noon news because they were continuing coverage of the dead black criminal up in MN. I really doubt they will like defunding the police. The ones mouthing all that crap live in bad neighborhoods. I do wounder if I'll get a tax break because of it. where the hell will they live when their houses are on fire? How will they get places with their cars burned or stolen? I keep watching the news because it'll be fun! Most don't think beyond what the news reader just said.

I also worry about who will clean up the dead bodies of the criminals. No problem with shooting them as they riot. (remember the only effective way to stop it was what the Korean shop owners did in LA.) There's a problem with all the demonstrations. Some, maybe half are peaceful. The other half want to party. The fools even burn down liquor stores. So I do want to know about it, just not with a leftist slant.

So do as you wish. I like gun talk. I think I even own one or maybe two. Guess I gotta go look.

When I have inadvertently strayed into social media it gets me down. I get frustrated at the apparent inability to reason.

I come here and enjoy the humor threads and many of the others. I really really love this forum and its people.

We retired 5 years ago. Since that time we have totally quite watching the news, late night tv and any other mind bending crap. I catch some Town Hall or American Thinker from time to time but, other than this fantastic place, I tune out.

I deactivated my Facebook today for the same reason. I rarely watch the local news and never watch the national news shows anymore, which is something for me since I'm a news fanatic. I'm just sick of all the bullshit.
When I sign back on to Facebook, I'm going to delete a bunch of people and pages and go back to just what I started it for, to keep up with family and friends.

I agree. The wife and I don't watch the news at all anymore...even Fox. We watch old movies or re-runs of CSI or maybe the History channel. That's it.

If I want to know what is going on, I check in here.
