Starting April 1st, 34 more states, plus DC and PR, are joining in wanting their sales tax collected. That leaves only 8 states left not collecting sales tax (AK, DE, FL, KS, MO, MT, NH, and OR). But, it's only a matter of time before FL, KS, and MO join the fray. The remaining 5 states (AK, DE, MT, NH, OR) do not have a state sales tax.

Prediction: GB sales will be down. Many folks will stop buying, or if they buy, they will factor in their tax for the final price they'll have to pay. So, the sellers, hence GB, will get less. Also, buying folks will contact sellers to deal behind the scene more and more. This way, sellers don't have to pay seller's fee, and buyers avoid GB collecting sales tax for their states.

It's the buyers that will be hit with the sales tax. Starting next month, you will be tagged with the TX sales tax whenever you buy on GB. Doesn't matter where the seller is.

I am confused how person A can collect sales tax on person B selling something to person C?

Gunbroker is a business operating as a reseller, hence the taxing.

There typically are no sales taxes on used items being sold between private individuals. This is true even in the non-internet world. If I buy a widget on craiglist from a seller, I pay no sales tax. If I buy a widget at an auction from the estate of the "seller", I pay sales tax to the auctioneer.

Yep. The sales tax will have to be figured into the overall cost of the transaction. Some transactions will go forward on GB; some will be driven underground.

Whenever a tax is increased (or implemented) there is a compliance issue. The higher the taxes, the more incentive to evade them.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I've stopped even looking on GB. My last two firearm purchases have been FTF locally off Texas Gun Trader and of all places Craigslist.

FWIW ,.

my sales have not slowed down at all, thankfully,
however I think that is due to the current 'climate' ,

also as an update, as a seller, you do not have to do anything,

GB handles the tax, so when it is charged , you the seller pay it on the next billing cycle, as part of your fees
