Good Luck, waiting for the biopsies can be an anxious time. The PSA test is so prone to false positives that it is anyone’s guess what the result might be. I hope yours is one of those, let’s wait and watch situations. I am 83 and have gone through it three times. About ten years ago my already high PSA, 6+ as I recall, started climbing. The reaction of my urologist was not good and his “feel” check found hard spots. I am certain that he thought I had serious trouble. He waited 6 months, checked again and found it still climbing and accelerating. So to biopsy #1, after the procedure he gave me the standard cancer talk, and set up an appointment discuss the pathologist’s report which was due in a week. Naturally I was upset, plus there is a family history of prostate cancer. In about five days the office called, I picked up the phone prepared for the bad news, the pathologist had said nothing found. Another two years passed with semi-annual tests and PSA results inching up. On to biopsy #2, he punched many more holes, we went through the same routine, again nothing found. Again two years of tests with PSA inching up then leveling then inching up again, I think I passed 11 but I don’t recall the exact number. The Doc was certain that I had cancer which he had just failed to find. So back for #3, this time he turned my prostate into a sieve and said it would require about a week of the pathologists time to read all of the samples. I ended up with a Foley Catheter one of the more unpleasant experiences of my life. The results; nothing found, Oh and my PSA counts are slowly declining.

Positive thoughts and prayers from me as well. And I have just recently been down that road as well. But when I had my biopsy, my doctor never even mentioned sedatives. I probably would have taken them...) Best of luck.

Well, I too can relate. I've had multiple biopsies and by themselves they are no big deal. I never had anything for them and I don't think that they are needed. There is very little discomfort, only like getting mildly snapped by a rubber band. My biopsies showed that I indeed have prostate cancer, but after watching it for 5-6 year now, the PSA has only gone up minimally and I have not had any treatment at all. Nothing. I'm now 77 and likely something else is going to get me before the prostate cancer. Usually, especially among us older folks, it is slow moving, unlike the young guys who are in deep trouble if they get it. So, wait to see what the biopsy shows, and watch the PSA counts and don't panic. You likely will have some time to be watchful to see what results. Anyway, I send you a prayer.

The probe, maybe, but I don't care what the aftereffects I'm taking some DOPE before a biopsy! Best of luck to you. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Glad you're getting it fixed. Prostate cancer spreading to other organs is a hell of way to check out. Four coworkers and a brother-in-law went that way. All in their mid to late '50's. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".
