Because sales are not "low" now compared to the historical average. They were artificially high under Obama. You made it sound like that was the new normal, when it was never normal.

Gun sales are low compared to the historical average. It is like a slingshot effect. They were indeed artificially high under Obama, and due to market over-correction, they are now lower than they have been for 10+ years.

This thread came along just in time. I had just about run out of excuses for why I need another gun. Now I'm helping the economy .

My buddy and I have bought 4 guns this year between us after having not bought anything fir the last several years. Neither of us were willing to pay panic prices since we both were fairly happy with what we had. Now that deals have started to pop up, we're more willing to take advantage.

If that's true, how do you explain this: The first six months of 2017 witnessed the second largest number of firearm background checks ever recorded for the first half of a given year, according to the FBI. According to FBI figures, there were 12,601,102 background checks performed January 1, 2017, through June 30, 2017. That is second only to the 13,829,491 conducted during the same time frame in 2016. It should be noted that 2016 turned into a record year for background checks, with 27,538,673 total checks. 2017 is on now within striking distance of the 2016 record.[/QUOTE]

I buy only high quality firearms and expect to pay a quality price for a quality firearm. But I personally backed away from many purchases over the past 10 years due to what I view as price gouging. I stopped going to gun shows all together because of the ridiculous prices the dealers put on guns. The only deals are in the parking lot. Dealers who were in it for the long haul kept things reasonable and can count on my loyalty. Dealers who rode the wave and jacked prices sky high may see me window shopping but it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever buy anything from them. I am now seeing prices coming down on the tags in gun shops in my area which is a good thing for the consumer. CMSGT USAF (Retired) Chief of Police (Retired)

Don't get complacent. Stack the ammo deep in your stash as well as any other guns and accessories as you may desire.

Idiot by birth, Asshole by choice |
Always follow Para's advice, and buy while things are quiet, and prices are low. Think of it as the stock market, and buy low, sell high Things may be good for the buyer now, but in 4 or 8 years, that all may change. As for the gun business being slow right now, I always like to shop at my local store, rather than on-line, even if it means paying a little more. I'd rather give the local guy my business.

Yes, the first 6 months of 2017. I'm talking about July 2017, i.e. NOW.

So, you're griping about the last 7.5 days?

Well, it's hardly griping when sales are so low you can't make a payroll or pay vendor invoices. Actually, this is data from last month, June, as you must wait for the month to actually close before you can review.

I'm ready. You know, this thread has given me hope. If I can get through internet bashing, I can pretty much get through anything.

In that case, bigwagon's question above is valid because those NICS numbers go through June. I understand the nationwide trend numbers are not helpful if you have a regional aberration. Is there any way you can see if your slow sales are being seen throughout CA? I'm sorry that you're going through a rough patch.

It's interesting that no matter what a person says, someone can pull up an obscure piece of datum that seems to be in absolute contradiction. I'll keep those figures in mind in case they end up being of use. We're not a CA retailer. We manufacture for the entire country. My dealers in other states have come to the same basic conclusions that I have. It's been the topic of discussion all week, also with my vendors. I'm actually having a meeting tomorrow to address the issue. Thank you for the kind note. Hope you are doing well.
